Tsr4 sits closed?

Anybody else notice their Tsr4 sits closed at address compared to a stock Tsr3? It's to the point It changed my swing pattern. Was wondering if anybody else saw this with their Tsr4 before i stop by a golf shop and bug them for a new head.

@gbang15, what is your TSR4 set to?  (i.e. A1, B2, etc)?  Some settings will effectively close the face a bit.

I've only set it on standard to open settings. D1, C2, D2. D2 setting looks to be the most open to me at address, but still not as open as my 22' Stealth + head. it's bringing the wrx out of me because the 22' Stealth is slower off the face than the Tsr line. But my flight is more consistent with the Stealth head.

The point is however that Upright/Flat can also influence how the face sits slightly independent of the measured angle. Upright settings can often appear more closed and flat settings more open, hence why C1 is generally considered the most "open" setting on any given Titleist head. This isn't a hard and fast rule however, some companies like Cobra have experimented with sole geometry to negate this visual differences.

As for the head itself, I don't recall it feeling like it sat shut, most Titleist stuff appears a bit open to me, but that could be a bulge and roll thing. Lower spin/Lower MOI heads like the "4" models in Titleist's lineup will often have more aggressive bulge and roll to offset the stronger gear effects from mishits, and a more prominent bulge on the heel side of the head can make the face look more closed, even if it isn't. The TSR3 would have less prominent heel/toe bulge, and many Taylormade heads appear much straighter faced due via how crown paintlines are used cleverly to disguise bulge, and the overall shape of the crown.

I don't know how much the face angles vary on Titleist woods, they've always felt pretty consistent to me honestly so i'm not sure if another one is the answer unless you can put a bunch down and cherry pick any variations you see. That stuff messes with me too though, i'm super picky about face angles and how the face generally looks behind the ball. If I couldn't get over the aesthetics of a driver like that and it messed with my swing i'd be ditching it in a hurry.

Go back to A1 or B1 and see how it looks.  And hits.

A1would close it back compared to any lower loft setting. Come back with a more educated answer that’s useful and types.

after thorough evaluation before posting  all the lower loft settings sit open compared to the standard A1 setting. I have a Rory type push draw with similar proportions to him. So a flat setting wouldn’t make sense for a guy like me.

TSR 4 Driver with the most open setting is C1 for RH. If it still looks closed get a lower lofted head. 8* will appear more open than a 9*

Never said anything about the "A1" setting, obviously anything lofting down from that would appear more open, you just omitted the most open setting (C1) so I was making sure. Also flatter settings *are* what makes sense for shorter overall height, however more so with irons. Rory likes more upright lie angles for strike purposes as he is a toe miss guy and upright lie angles on woods can help move strike slightly away from there. If you are also someone that misses in the toe then that might be helpful, but if not then using Rory's fit as a blueprint for your own doesn't make much sense. Lie angle for low lofted clubs has very little impact on ball curvature anyway.

If you've tried all these settings and the head still doesn't look right to you then i'd move on.

guarenteed theres multiple factors not just his strike pattern that influences his upright lie angle. i.e. his ability to raise the handle at impact, and his delivery to keep the clubhead square at impact. C1 is not the most open setting under the titleist surefit chart. Any option lofted down from A1 setting is considered 1.5* open. (i.e. D1, C2, D2 settings included.) Unless, you're able to digitally prove this with a machine or quote a statement made by titleist, your claims should be under speculation. You've been caught spreading misinformation before on here.

Either way, I prefer a setting congruent to rory's swing pattern. If it was simple as strike pattern i'm sure he'd be using any lie angle. But, playing golf at such a high level as myself; we all know lie angle influences much more than strike pattern. Unless, you're not able to feel those differences in the swing, which seems ignorant to ignore.

Also, weren't you the person stating rory tipped his 3w shaft 1"? which was wrong and spreading wrong info on here until I corrected you? (he tips his ventus 3wood 1.5" to clear up your misinformation.)

I'm sure there are multiple factors, but it has been stated in an interview (either him or a TM tech, can't remember which) that that is the main reason for favoring driver lie angles like that. Pros rarely use lie angles in woods for shot shape manipulation; face angle and CG are the focus. Not sure what you mean re: "his ability to raise the handle at impact" being a factor there because his slightly under plane and inside delivery has him raising the handle *less* than the average pro, which would support flatter lie angles, not upright, which brings us back to the notes about strike being the driving factor.

As for the driver head, I said in the first post that lie angle *can* impact how the head sits on the ground so C1 is considered potentially the most "open" setting, one that you left out of your list, so it warranted checking out since it would take 2 seconds and seemed like a simple suggestion. Apparently that was taken as an affront to your intelligence though based on how you've gotten weirdly combative with a stranger(s) on the internet, so have fun with your high level golf game patterned after Rory I guess. 😅

Ask a question, get reasonable suggestions from several people based on the information provided, proceed to get smug and condescending and reject the suggestions out of hand.  Seems like a good way to immediately get added to ignore lists.

I think you should stop by a golf shop and bug them for a new head.

Then, when they tell you the same sht that you were told here, you can get all smug with them and tell them you're Rory and stuff.  Cool story going on here.

I feel bad for the person at the return counter when the OP shows up with a used TSR4 and demands a brand new head because his doesn't look right in his "Rory settings."
