Counterbalancing irons, woods, and/or wedges

Clamping pressure was not adjusted,(but calibrated before testing like i always did) and i dont expect the shaft to expand as OD on the full 5 last inches where its clamped, so i dont see that as a explanation.

I think you may have misunderstood my post.   I wasn't suggesting clamping pressure changed.   I'm saying that the general testing methodology is open to artifacts being introduced that are not accurate representative of actual changes in stiffness to the shaft.   Changing clamping pressure was just one example of how those artifacts can be introduced - but not necessarily the only one.

I’m sorry if I missed it, are your current iron shafts graphite or steel?

See my signature. Currently Modus 120X soft-stepped once. Dynamic Gold Sensicore X100 before that (standard X100 soft stepped once or twice is close to the same feel).

All those i tried DID, we can measure it on the CPM reader, it was NOT Tourlock, but i expect them to work the same way, since they look equal and is installed the same way, where they "expand" in the shaft to stay in its position.
Just try it and see for yourself, this is why i dont use insert weight on anything but putters, i prefer that wgt to come from added grip weight and rubber who dampens feel from the shaft instead of boosting it like the insert CWs i had. (cant recall the brand name, but Mitchell sold them)

I will say this - I have tended to like very stiff shafts over the years. My driver fit was the Smoke Green IM10, which I think is relatively close to the Avalon I am playing. I also loved the OG Grafalloy Blue back in the day. So, to be honest, shafts that others felt were "harsh" or "too stiff" were the ones I liked.

The counterweight seemed to make the shafts feel stiffer/harsher. I will do some more testing when I have time and get back with you. There is some reason why, for sure.

It isn't like I have a very violent swing either and I do have more of an "early" release as well.

Your release starts right below 9 o clock, so its MID in "my book", early is before 9

Yes it is, but too late is not good either. ive been working with this man, and he was not easy to fit with his crazy load and very late release down below 8 o clock some where (the video is from the open in 2009, and yes its Bubba Watson in the background)

That is just freaky looking!!!

What type of shaft profile does he like? Like I said, I love the super stiff, low torque stuff. However, I am getting older (53), and am fighting slowing down. So, I am sure my preferences will change.

At the time he came to me, he used the OG Blue 75X for both his driver and 3W, and irons was the OG DG X7 (not todays DG X Seven) His #6 iron club speed was 102-103 mph, but he was NOT as fast with the driver as i expected, but no matter what i tried, i could not improve it vs what he got, so his crazy load and late release was like "written in stone" no matter what i tried to improve his driver numbers. The same player had a very short career on the top level, due to other priorities, but it happens that he still plays "now and then", and his iron game precision was scary good after a loft and lie tweak in my studio.

In the other and of "the scale", look at this player. She also had a very short carer on the top level, and came to me very young in her first year of professional Golf. She had been to Titleist HQ for fitting in UK to "upgrade" her bag, but that set-up ruined her game, and she was on the edge to give up professional golf.

saw her as a opportunity to prove that my fitting concept was the right way to go, since im using club specs to "tweak" the players swing into a swing thats how i think it should be, and the videos and text speaks for themselves.

I worked with her over a 4 mounts period where each club in the bag was fitted to perfection, so that year she won the LET access, and qualified for the highest level, the LPGA Tour in Europe. (look into my DIY driver tune up, and scroll down 8 posts to VISUAL FITTING, where my fitting concept using club specs to tweak the players swing is explained)

The good thing about that concept is that ANYONE can do it, just like the DIY driver tune up, as long as you know what to look for in the players swing, and by that, what parameter/club spec to adjust to improve it. Go together with a playing buddy, use video and do your own high level club fitting using that concept, this link and video proves that it works.

She has a great move for sure. I will go back and look at the fitting concept. I have read your driver tune up a few times, but has been a while. I will hunt that down this weekend. 🙂

So, got on a Quad Saturday after my round as the fitter that had fitted me wasn't busy. My timing was certainly better with the counterweights in, but my numbers were pretty much the same. We did knock the loft back down to 8° and that improved my smash factor as it was running a little low.

Here were some good swings, and the full swing is my last one. I still want to get to 170mph ball speed, which I haven't hit. I tried my best to jump the speed up. Hit 117mph a time or two, but terrible contact. My "smooth" speed was 113 club and my more aggressive swings were 115-116.

My path was definitely more inside-out with a higher tee height. I liked the 3-4° in to out with the 0.5 to 1° closed to path range with the lower tee.

What weights did you settle on?

50g in driver. 20g in 3w and 19° hybrid.

I still want to do a little more testing, but that is where I am.

Sure. My driver, 3w, and hybrid are all counter balanced. See my signature below. I love the setup honestly. I didn't gain any speed as some do, but feel like my strikes are more centered. It seemed to flatten the flight out a bit on my 3w, but maybe that is me also.

I have a friend who also has done the same thing in his woods and loves it also.
