Mizuno STg 440, this thing needs more love!

I have not tested the stg 440 but just picked up an stz 230 head and absolutely love the looks.  Putting it through its paces within the next couple of weeks to see if it can unseat the beast Ltdx ls.  So far, sound and feel are outstanding.  If the stg is close to the forgiveness of the stz, it will be awesome!  Mizuno’s latest shapes in their woods have rivaled the tsi/tsr line and that’s as good of a compliment one can receive.

Keep us updated as you continue to play it.  Curious to hear more on course feedback, especially on off days.

Another Mizuno STG-440 owner here.  I can without a doubt say that this club is EVERYTHING I've been wanting in all my past drivers.  The head shape, face depth, sound/feel is all perfect.  I haven't been able to get it on a course yet (Ky. Weather this time of year SUCKS) but in my net its just awesome.  I loved it so much I also picked up the TI Fairway and its just as good as the driver.  2024 is the year Mizuno sweeps all categories for me...Woods/Irons/Wedges.  I've played most of the new drivers over the years and this 440 Mizuno is on another level for me.

I haven't played the recent iterations of Mizuno woods - but they were my "discount go-to" back in the day.

Mizuno woods have always been quality. They just never got much respect. Hence, dirt cheap on the used market.

But, I'd say that reputation is changing.

We've seen more Mizuno drivers in Tour bags over the past year than we ever have. Prices on the used market demonstrate that they are gaining greater respect.

If I found a good price on one tomorrow, I wouldn't have any qualms about putting it into play.

It really is special. I’ve liked and hit the Mizuno drivers since the ST180…a good buddy plays the ST180 and keeps talking about getting a new driver but he kills that club. My son converted last season from a ST190 to a Rogue Max LS and he’s already talking about going back to the ST190 because it’s point and shoot for him and longer consistently. I was gonna check out the STG-440 just because, but when I seen it at a GG I was like this is the ONE. Didn’t even hit it, just the shape/face depth colorway was perfect. So I sold a Aerojet LS and bought it. From the first swing it’s been perfect for me.

I do have to admit I’m a bit of a mizuno nut but always open to whatever performs best. I’ve gamed a lot of their drivers over the last 20 years. The MP650 holds the record for the longest a driver has ever been in my bag at 3 seasons! I can guarantee I’d have had a better 2023 seasons if I’d have kept my STg 220 in the bag. I’m extremely excited about this season with the STg 440 and a set of MP 245s that will hopefully be in the bag by mid month!

New 440 owner here as well.  I found a crack in the sole of my 650 and it's been in the bag for a LONG time.  I needed a new stick and decided to go for the 440.    Waiting for the weather (and my tennis elbow) to get better.

Glad to hear you're doing well with it!

If you try this driver, you will not be disappointed!  If all these youtubers would play this driver at 45 3/4" like all the other drivers they review they would realize that this thing is special!  Great looks and feel and a low spin bomber!  No whistleing here either!

I agree 100%. I actually ordered mine short at 44.5” and it’s better than the longer clubs I’ve tried. Better contact = longer drives. And the only “Whistling” I’m hearing is me as I smash it over and over 😬

This 100%!!! I’ve been thinking the same thing for several years about the YouTube guys reviewing mizuno woods with shafts that are typically 3/4” shorter than what the other manufacturers are offering. On the flip side I have been playing my driver at 44 3/4” for the past 5+ years and truly believe I hit it farther and more accurately than standard length. But when they are comparing club to club they should be using shafts at the same length. Just my opinion.

I’ve been looking at the 220, and now I’m curious besides the size difference - What’s the difference between the STG220 v STG440?
Anyone whose hit them both with actual hands on time with them?

I still have the ST180 (‘Ol Blue Bomber in my backup set).

I played the 220 for a while and it was a great driver, but I feel like the weight tracks in the new G gives you more versatility, especially if you want a little more forgiveness or if you need some more spin.  I also think that the 220 felt a little hard off the face, the new face to me feels softer and more springy if that makes any sense?

Indeed...

I was looking at maybe a Titlesit TSR 2 or 4 or this Mizuno 440 to finally replace my pair (!) of trusty Adams 9015ds, and that Mizuno looks reassuringly decent at address.

Both my 9015ds are the 10.5 head - i've a Kai'Li Blue and white shaft - the Blue somehow is my favourite, but ball flight is much higher - as in a bit too high. Wondering if the 9.5 degree ST-G would be the better option to fit the Kai'Li Blue...

Here's the Adams at address as comparison (the Adams being an all time 460cc beauty contest winner in my opinion)

I played the TSR3 since it came out. Ventus TR Blue 6x with the 10gram(+2) weight. Sometimes I put the 12 gram in. I have zero complaints it’s a great driver. I should not even be considering another. But like most of us here we just like to tinker

It will be hard to beat the tsr3, but the stg/stz drivers mimic a lot of what tsr line does.  Two of the best looking drivers on the market.  Similar shape, both feel soft yet powerful and sound amazing!  Tsr might get a touch more ball speed, but not sure you will see it on the course.

Says a lot about the progress Mizuno has made in the driver game.

I’m still testing the stz230 and it’s impressing me more and more.

Another tsr3 user that keeps thinking about this driver.  The tsr3 is so good that I’m not sure why I would, but this Mizuno just looks really good at address to me. Nothing else has made my eyes wander like the stg440.   I need to be strong because for my needs, I’m not sure how the TSR can be topped…

In my eyes, the STg 440 looks like a cross between the TSr3 and TSr4. It sounds better, has the best qualities in looks between the Titleist drivers, and if set up correctly will preform just as well if not better. Thats just my take on it.

Love that this is available for left handers. If I decide to purchase a new driver this year it will be the ST-G 440. Love the looks of it. Especially the deeper face. Mizuno makes excellent drivers that many people won't even consider trying.

I was looking at a new TSR driver, as in Thailand I'd actually be able to get a fitting for it and see if say the 2 or the 4 might be best... but this STG 400 driver was also on my short list.

I already have the TSR2 5 wood - it's very good, and feel is much better since I switched out the Tensei to a Kai'Li Blue... but again there's a thought I can't ignore...

Warning !!More enabling follows!!

Because, of course the ST-G isn't just a driver - there's a 3 and 5 Titanium fairway wood too, and reviews are very, very promising never mind the driver matching good looks...
