T150 vs T200 vs I230 vs 790

I was thinking about moving to bigger irons for the upcoming season.  I ordered I230 earlier and used them 1 round. They are Very nice but I wasn't convinced.

I've been fitted many times and I'm in the Camp now of all Clubs are within 5% of each other so it doesnt matter anymore.  Especially at my Level .. Don't practice Don't care play twice a week for fun and want to beat my Buddies and that's about it.

I230

Forgiving.  Long Irons are a little tricky to Launch.  Looks are ok. Feel is really good but not Great.  Very good overall irons.  Like Don't Love.

New 790s

These for me a Rubbish.  The Shortest in the Group.  Relatively ugly.  Big Footprint but not super forgiving.  I hated these.

T150s

These are amazing.  They were tied with T200 for distance.  Feel was the best.  Looks were tied with T200 as excellent.  Feel was good.  Sound was awesome as well we feel.  The best feeling of the 4. 5 Iron was a little scary for me especially to hit consistently.  Maybe worried about forgivness in the 4-5-6 irons.

T200

Also amazing.  Feel was great. Looks were the best for me.  Inspire confidence but still look small enough to not be annoying.  Feel was fantastic. Sound was brutal though.  Unless u completely middle it the sound was "shanky".  Hard to describe.  Same distance as T150 but a tad more forgiving.  Noticeably more forgiving in 5 iron.  Tied with T150s for highest launching.

Basically I found the titleist offerings better than the other 2.

I would pick T150s If I practiced / took lessons / had a bit more confidence.  I 100% would have picked these in my golfing past.  I would Pick the T200 If I needed a bit bit of help especially in the Long irons.

I would pick the Pings If you liked that "Solid" thud of Ping.  Nice looking / feeling clubs.  Very workmanlike.  No brainer if a fan of Ping.

The 790s were Poo.

I'm going to decide between T150s and T200s and order a set shortly.

I will likely do AMT White on either set as for me DG always wins.

Why don’t you combo the t200 in the longer irons with the T150s in the short irons?  Seems logical given the concerns you outlined

not a fan of combo sets but that might be the best choice for sure.

Based on what you've said, it sounds like T150s are checking the most boxes. You could certainly combo the set with some T200s in the long irons if you felt the T150s were too intimidating. The Mizuno MP 243 may also be worth a look. I found them to be quite forgiving with a sole design reminiscent of the i230 and they are hot like the T200 with forged feel.

Fwiw…

I went to a fitting back in 2020 fully expecting to be fitted either to another set of Pings, which I’d always used, or maybe one of the Apex models.  My fitter, who is very good and very much brand agnostic, fitted me to the T200s, and I’ve played the best golf of my life with them.

Fast forward to last spring, and I did a fitting with Titleist specifically to see if some version of a blended set would benefit me.  I hit both the T350 long irons, and the T150 short irons, and ended up sticking with the full set of T200s.  The gaps were wrong with the T150 short irons, and I didn’t hit them any better anyway.  The point of that is just to say that I wouldn’t assume that any sort of blended set would be beneficial.

The 790s are about a club longer than the 150s. p790 7i loft 30.5. T150 7i loft 32. What shaft was in the 790s you hit? What is your index? Calling the 790s short and rubbish is a bit extreme.  I prefer my 150s to my 790s (both 2023) bc the 790s are too long...but they are WAY more forgiving than the 150s.

I was wondering the same thing.  I had the 2023 P790's and they are F'ing amazing golf clubs if you get them swing weight matched.  He may be referring to the the horribly planned out stock lofts on the 790's though.  The PW is 45 and has a 5 degree gap to the 9, same gap again to the 8.  The stronger lofts happen after that versus T150.  This is why you should always get your clubs through an experienced fitter who has a component account if going TM.  On top of that, TM QC is so bad, his lofts could have been all over the place.  That's China for you

The new 2023 versions of T200, P790, and T150 are all amazing if set up correctly.  None are longer or shorter than the others if matched in loft, shaft, swingweight etc. He should be considering the Mizuno 245's as well.  May be the best of the bunch

I've got a set of 2017 P790's and the latest T200.

P790's are definitely more forgiving and a little longer. I'm only trying out a change as I had a load of shop credit I had to use. I'm not a fan of the clicky feel on the 2017 790's so wanted something a bit duller which the T200's do. Whilst the latest p790 is less clicky, I don't like what they have done with the top-line which makes it look a LOT chunkier than both the 2017 version and T200, both have a more rounded top edge to soften it.

Have you actually seen and, or set down the i230,P790,T150, orT200 behind a golf ball? These are enormous size club heads.

I’ve been playing the T200’s for 3 years, and I hit the 150s at a Titleist fitting.  I’ve looked at both of the others, though I’ve not hit them.  We’ll have to agree to disagree about the size, and I’m not going to take the time to research it.

I love the look of the T100 / T150 but probably need the help of a T350 / T200 Combo set. I can't get past the plastic hubcap/backplate though. These irons are way to expensive to be spending big money on with those plastic backplates that could fall off at any time.

I hope Titleist see sense and make the next generation of T350 and T200 look more like the T150 / T100 in a slightly larger size.

Thx - I am weakening the loft on mine, and looking forward to just hitting more greens. T150’s on the chopping block.  What about a more spiny shaft?

Went back to my Srixon combo...but T200 easily my favorite of the releases this year. Im considering grabbing again.  Launch great...can hit 4 and 5 iron fairly well and high.  Shots I hit and thought whoops missed green ended up better than I imagined.  Look great in bag from the sole perspective and the back.  The only thing that bugged me a bit was the shaping of 8-P...just a bit more rounded from the toe to hosel at address than I like to see.

i230s - performance was solid, distance was average, and wasn’t in love with the long irons.  I’m a Ping guy, but these didn’t wow me.

790s - looked great, very forgiving, just didn’t spin enough for me.  Ball just fell out of the sky.

T150s - looked fantastic, great feeling, but probably a tad too much for my ball striking ability on an average day.  I shot my best round of the year with these, but I also shot my worst round of year.  I want to play these, but know I shouldn’t.

T200s - perfect blend of looks and forgiveness.  Great launch and distance.  My only complaint was the feeling I wanted wasn’t there.  Changed to a slightly softer ball, and they are magic.  These give me what I need and don’t demand I beat balls everyday to keep up with them.

PXG G7 - Thought I would throw these in.  Everything the T200 gives you, but with less spin.

Good luck.

I play T150 5-pw and T200 4 iron. Never been a fan of titleist anything in my life. Tried these when they came out and I’m serious they are rivaling my old srixon 745s which I thought were one of the best irons ever made. T150 look great feel great they do everything I want and more. I would say they are pretty forgiving unless you’re really not hitting the face. As for the T200 4 iron the thing is also money. Super forgiving and just goes. Very happy with this set.
