Yep. That was with the Pxg ball too. Hit it on my launch monitor today and saw 152-153 ballspeed and lower spin. And that was with stock weight config. I could see 154-155 ballspeed when I put the weights in I tested with. They get here tomorrow. 

 

I believe I'll get really close to 250 carry.

Nope. Very neutral and sets up square to my eye.

It's no big secret on these forums that I test 3ws like they're a new candy. 

 

I've been in the paradym triple diamond for close to a year. It's been a really good 3w for me. It actually took me away from cobra aerojet which was fantastic but launched way too low.

 

Well, this black ops 3w appears to be WAY better than anything I've ever hit. speed of paradym, dispersion of cobra. Lower overall spin than triole diamond too. At 15* it launches higher than triple diamond at 16.

 

It's as quick as anything out. It may take you a bit to get the weight setup right,but when you do, this 3w can be special. 

 

Got my weights in yesterday so did some testing today. 2nd config was 1 of the 2 that showed a lot of promise at pxg. I didn't have a lot of time so I hit 4 balls with each config and then moved on to the next. Was just judging feel in transition and contact. 

 

Got done, shut down the launch monitor and then reviewed the data. This config felt superb, but didn't realize just how well it performed. This is all 4 shots shown in a dispersion pattern...

Well, that was odd. Unusual, for me, for a club to preform drastically different on the range compared to the launch monitor. 

 

But black ops 3w was terrible off grass. Couldn't get it to do anything I wanted. Tried several weight configs and all severely underwhelmed. 

 

Just to make sure it wasn't me having a bad day, grabbed the paradym 3d and proceeded to pump 3 straight 10 yd cuts. 

 

And my frustration with pxg fairways continues...

Really strange. Was turf interaction the issue? Any idea what was going on?

Yeah I think turf interaction was definitely an issue. I didn't really have an issue finding the center but the ball didn't launch as well as it did off my mat. Everything came out flat and a lot of balls just low and falling left. Start line was all over the place. I didn't feel like I had a hard time feeling where things were in transition...it just didn't perform....literally at all.

 

It does setup closed at address outside. I didn't see that on the mat, but outside it's shut. That tell.me the 17 turned down may be better but not gonna risk it.

Sold the 15 and bought a 17. Turned it down to 16. Allowed me to keep launch up and move CoG forward. 

 

5gx5g in front heel and toe. 10g in back port. 

 

Range tested it today and we may have a winner.

PXG woods are as good as anything out there. What I think that makes then better is the adjustment options you have. Once you get the lie/loft and weights set up right these are money. If you cannot get fitted for whatever reason get a weight kit and have a play around. It won't take long to work out what the setup is that works best for you.

Sounds Ideal.....mid spin and launch....can add weight to toe.....4 wood dialed down 1*....Bingo!

 

turf interaction comments scared me a little - any other views on that before I pull the trigger?

Theyre fine to me. I dont see anything unique about them in that regard. If anything they have less camber and dig less.

Looks nice. Sounds and feel is nice. The adjustability is best on the market. Flight is high with moderate spin. Very forgiving especially off the toe.

No I play neutral to draw-biased woods, but since I play them short I am using the heaver PXG weights in all 3 spots on the sole so technically i do have more weight in the toe but not to make a fade, just for SW purposes.

Good fairways. I was close to having it dialed in...but I bought an ai smoke 3d 3w shortly after I got the pxg...and the smoke ticked every box rather quickly. Did the 1 thing we'll that was making me look.at moving away from paradym 3d...low strike didn't spin up.

 

But the black ops is easy to hit too. I just had to toy with weight settings a bunch where ai smoke was almost automatic.

I would have never thought I'd play a PXG club, but theyre in the bag.

 

Adjustability, spin retention (forgiveness), looks, feel, sound. For me; this line has it all.

 

I didnt put the ZX MK II in the bag and I kept the Callaways going. This is the first brand to kick Callaway woods out of my bag in years.
