What online coach would you recommend for my swing

Recommended Posts

First video below is first swing during my final club of a range session. Tried to have no swing thoughts.

This second video is last swing with the same club. Too many swing thoughts and probably focusing on things I don’t need to.

I think I’m too the point I’ve watched too many YouTube videos and now have way too many swing thoughts. Its really hard for me to not think about my swing; being an engineer we tend to overthink/overanalyze everything. I’m considering trying online lessons to have someone else tell me what I need to work on instead of me trying to figure it out. Unless someone knows of a good instructor near Mobile, Alabama.

Who would y’all recommend from my swing type? My miss is a topped ball btw.

Biggest issue is setup.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

I think you found your ideal online coach (see above, if not obvious) Lots have taken lessons from Monte and enjoyed, myself included.

He knows what he’s talking about, he seemingly genuinely cares about helping the student improve, and he doesn’t try to band-aid you.  Things take work. Swing/motor pattern improvements are the ultimate tortoise and hare race. If you do what Monte prescribes diligently and keep at it long term, you’ll be surprised how good you can get, but there are no free lunches or shortcuts. In the long run that’s a good thing.

LOL, “seemingly genuinely cares” - I know you don’t quite mean it like it could sound and don’t let it get around that he does!

I think you found your guy...Monte.

With what you already have, online lessons with him will likely be better than a teacher who isn't that great in person...

Monte knows his stuff and you know enough and have enough physical traits and ability to take what he gives you and do something with it.

…and truth be told, the first swing change would be eliminating that eye and head following the club going back, then snapping back to the ball.  Very common problem and awful for your ball striking

There’s some irony about that issue and the way those that lack practical experience on the lesson tee see things. I don’t want to hijack the thread, so if anyone wants to hear a good story, PM me.

That’s going to be extremely hard for me to break. I hear it all the time. Some kind of mental block I have.

It’s pretty straight forward.  If you don’t rectify your setup and eliminate that movement, no swing changes are going to have any positive affect and are likely to make it worse.

It’s a hard habit for me to break to not eat ice cream, cake, candy and drink soda, because I enjoy that.  However if I want to get back in decent shape (being fat adversely affects my golf game), I have to suck it up and cut down (or cut out) those things.  I’ve put it off for 3 years and my game stagnated.

Golfers want to put timelines on how long a change will take and to quote Yoda, “That is why you fail.”

Using a bandaid to make someone hit it better today occasionally has it’s place, but if you don’t buy into, “Do it until you can do it,” long term improvement is unlikely.

There are probably multiple different reasons why people's eyes and head follow the ball (mine do) - can you comment on what has been successful to stop it?

Mostly just the Nike Drill….if you don’t know the joke, it means “Just do it.”

I always use the PT discussion after my knee surgery in these cases.

I walked with duck feet, bent forward, shoulders rolled in and head down.  There was no drill to change those movements, I just had to actively do them until the motor pattern was replaced.  I still fall back into bad habits when I’m tired.

You have to actively keep your eyes and head focused on the ball and not allow them to move until you stop.
