Counterbalance Putter Recommendation

I have been gaming the Odyssey Tank 2-ball counterbalance putter for the better part of a decade.

 

Finally decided to look for something new.  From what I can tell most putters don't come close to the 400g headweight not to mention the heavier shaft and the weight in the butt of the shaft. 

 

Would love recommendations on what to look for.  Thanks!

Oh man it's like perfect timing with the CB putter craze coming back, everyone is bringing out a CB putter it seems. 

 

Odyssey is going to have one in the AI lineup this year.

 

LAB Golf is kinda killing the CB game right now. 

 

Scotty has 2 CB options

 

PXG can easily build a CB setup with a lot of their putters, may need to contact a local fitter to build one out. 

 

You can find an old SIK Flo C mallet and build it to CB specs, those are 400g+ heads. 

 

Rumors that TaylorMade will have one in the Spider Line. 

 

Might see something from Bettinardi maybe then all of the smaller putter makers too.

The spider cb is already out. Spider tour...just cb'd.

I only hit about 4 putts with it. I don't like cb putters. It's was very stable. Exactly what you'd expect from a spider tour with added counterbalance stability. 

 

Just really heavy.

The LAB CB putters really have my eye right now.  I have an Axis1 CB putter that I really like as well.  Imho, the no torque putters, combined with counterbalancing, feel really good.  The Axis1 and LAB both have great tech and for me it comes down to if you prefer the funky Axis1 neck or the centershaft of the LAB.  My Axis1 is the HM Tour.  One nice thing about the Axis1 vs LAB is you can add head weight or change grips without worrying about upsetting the balance.  This is not true with the LAB.  If you are the sort of guy that likes to tinker with grips and weight that may be a slight edge to Axis1.

I’ve had the JB380 before and this is so much better. Would absolutely recommend trying a LAB CB if you get the chance. Feels much more stable.

you know it’s funny -  ever since writing this post I have been inundated with ads for lab putters.  Needless to say I am very intrigued by them.  
 

I just need to find a place to try them out.

Is there still a forward shaft lean with the SS 3.0 grip? IMHO, it wouldn't perform well if it had lean without a press-style grip.

I did the exact thing. I played the JB limited edition 380. Putter well, but felt I didn't make as many 10 footers as I do with the LAB c/b.  The head is heavy and super stable. IMO the best c/b out there right now.

Came in here to second the LAB recommendation - either the Mezz Max or DF as a CB would be solid.

 

Additionally, I noticed Odyssey came out with the AI Jailbird, but not in the CB version.  Have to imagine that will be coming out soon, no?

I’m between a mezz 1 and  mezz 1 max ATM. Have them both in my rotation. I really enjoy the look of the mezz1 but the feel a bit softer with the max. 

Also i did not know the all the big dogs are coming out with CB stuff.

Genuinely curious if a slank neck can/should be counter balanced? I've got a spider tour I want to throw an extension on and add a SS 17" grip.

I CB’ed a 7CH and it’s perfect. You wanna be sure the neck is right for your stroke though.

This is interesting. I’ve been rolling a spider tour CB and really loving it but a DF3 CB with no shaft lean might be really nice. I’ve never been able to get along with the shaft lean on labs.

I just picked up the Spider Tour CB.  It is awesome.  Tried everything out there, and this worked best for me

I have both the Spider CB and a CB DF3, both are great putters. I couldn't get along with the platinum finish on the DF3 I ordered so I sold it and reordered in black but seriously tempted to put the Spider CB in play while I wait. Decided on LAB over Spider only because I knew LAB had been fit for me but at $250+ cheaper I was really impressed with Spider CB.

I've got a Spider CB, it feels really well balanced.  I also have a Mezz MAX 16 CB at 39 inches I got off of the LAB outlet, thought I would love it as the specs are just what I wanted, just really struggled with the face closing for some reason.  And it seems really heavy, even though it is the standard weight.  Maybe I've got the feel for torque ingrained in my stroke.  

 

Last year I converted an old Bettinardi Inovai 5.0 CS to a 39 inch CB style putter, it worked OK, but I'm not crazy about the feel off the face.  I also had a Maltby PTM-5CS mallet head made up as a CB style, liked it better as it has a milled face, but it also seemed heavy, head is 389g.    So far the Spider seems to fit me the best.
