Tip Prep for Axiom Taper tip?

Anyone know the tip prep of any for the Axiom 105 Taper tip shafts? Just received from People today and want to get the build going. Cant find anything specific on Fuji website. Thanks

Taper tip shafts should be already prepped, just clean  with MEK or acetone. 
If the axioms look different, post us a picture.

Are you talking in general - or is that just specific to the axioms?  

 

I'm hoping the later.   I've had lots of taper tip shafts that have needed to be prepped.   Aerotech's steelfiber CW's are the only ones I've used that actually came prepped and ready to go.   Every other model needed the paint removed at least and sometimes some additional work to get a good fit in the hosel.

Axiom shafts are parallel tips not taper.  They come in 3 distinct lengths.  Long, mid, and short irons.  You tip trim each based on what iron they are going in, then butt trim to length.  Long is 2-3-4 iron, mid is 5-6-7, short is 8-9-W.  Screen shot direct from FUJIKURA website below.  If you go to their website and click the drop down menu, click on education then tip trimming.

Looks like Peoples will add the taper for you - which likely also means they are all tipped and prepped before they send it off.   

 

But the OP would have to check with them to determine how complete a prep job it is.  Mostly likely they should be all set.

I guess my experience is limited, Aldila, UST, KBS, and a few others over the years I can’t recall specifically.  I also recently had a supplier tell me this “ All graphite taper tip shafts come tip prepared…..not only KBS, but MMT, Aldila, Steel Fiber, UST Recoil.”

Not disbelieving you , appears what I was told is incorrect.

So it appears that Axiom only come in parallel tip.

Is the question you’re really asking is how to convert a parallel tip to taper tip? 

there are a number of threads about that.

And I see Stuart has provided info on who might supply a shaft with taper , but it sounds like you may have the shafts in hand already.

Interesting.   Only surprise there is the mention of the UST Recoils - every Recoil 95 and 110 that I have built with were not prepped - the paint was applied all the way to the tip.

Is the question you’re really asking is how to convert a parallel tip to taper tip?

And I see Stuart has provided info on who might supply a shaft with taper , but it sounds like you may have the shafts in hand already.  
 

 

 

I think Will Peoples may pre-prep/taper them if you buy them for a taper tip head.  At least, based on his website he asks if you need them for parallel tip or taper tip. So the question is whether they came precut and tapered, OP.

I actually spoke with Fujikura today about this issue when a concern came up regarding a set of Miura TC-201 irons I have for sale. The Axioms are now available in .370 parallel tip AND .355 taper tip. The .370 parallel shafts have L, M, S shaft designations that need to be tip trimmed and prepped per the Fujikura tipping instructions, as stated in one of the above posts, then butt trimmed to length after install. The .355 taper tip shafts have iron # specific shaft designations. There is NO tip trimming necessary in the .355 taper tip shafts. Just normal tip prep and then butt trim to length after install. The picture below shows the new shaft labels where you can see the individual iron # designated within the label. Additionally, there is a picture of the .370 parallel shafts installed where the Velocore shaft labels are staggered by .5", which is consistent with each individual shaft being tipped. The last picture is of my irons with the new .355 taper tip shafts, and it shows the Velocore shaft labels all aligned, which is consistent with none of the shafts being tipped.

I wonder since the tapered tip versions are not list on the Fujikura web site. Are they just trimming and tapering the parallel shafts prior to applying the lettering or are they a different shaft altogether?

One of the easiest ways to tell would be to weigh them.  Descending weight likely points at using raw blanks and then tip trimming/prepping using machining.  Constant weight would mean they are discrete shafts per length.

I have played and or built around 8 sets of irons with Recoil shafts.  None of them were prepped.

Ive got a set of 125’s coming next week. I’ll weigh them so we all know for sure.

Taper tip specs are listed on the Fujikura website on the Axiom product page if you are viewing on a desktop browser. If you’re looking at it on mobile the table of specs for taper tip is not showing for some reason.

Based on the length and weight listed in the tapered axiom shafts that they are the same shaft as the parallel just tipped and tapered prior to sale

Actually, Fujikura recently introduced Taper Tip shafts, per club.  They are slightly different from L, M, S, Parallel setup.
