Ex Post Facto PING Fitting?

Got a great deal on a set of Ping i525’s online. They are standard length and lie angle. I’m coming from a set of Callaway Apex 19 Combo’s that were red lie angle (2 degrees flat). I did the at home test and my static measurement (business card slid under the sole went all the way to the hosel almost), but the dynamic test (sharpie line on the ball) showed that the lie angle was near perfect on my 7 iron. Not sure if I should go to Club Champion or another authorized Ping fitter to get them checked out definitively. Anyone take there Pings to Club Champion or somewhere else after buying for a fitting? I know most places like to sell you the clubs as part of the process. What have been other people’s experiences with a ex post facto fitting?

The goal of a "fitting" is to sell you something.   If you have already bought the clubs, they have not got much to sell you, so there is little incentive.  That said, they will likely find something to get youy money.  Maybe lie adjustment.

Once you validate your lies:

 

a.  Send them to Ping for adjustment so that the ser# matches the specs ( personal choice), and they re-dot them

b.  Just have the shop that helps you bend them (ser# will no longer match the specs)

If that’s the case, aren’t they good to go?   A static measure/test is irrelevant.  What help will it be to have them measured?  And if they’re not to some spec, what will you do with that information?

General comments on fittings:

 

Two uses of static fittings:

• Quick check on an existing set of clubs that appear to be close to what you need. Takes into account your height, and club shaft length and lie angle.
• Starting point on full fitting. Fitter may use wrist-to-floor and static lie angle to get starting point to have you test out clubs.

Dynamic: this involves actually hitting the ball with the clubs. The sharpie test is a check on the lie angle for the set, per your swing. This picks up many of the same data points as does the Mizuno swing DNA system.

 

Loft and Lie Specs: I talked to a pro and respected clubfitter at one of St. Louis area's better public courses. When he fitted a golfer for factory-order clubs, he would always have the clubs sent back to his pro shop for final spec check. He said that even for top-end OEMs, he would find a couple of clubs enough out of spec he would need to adjust them before releasing them to the golfer.

 

Getting a loft and lie check on the set would give you a good starting point to develop your distance yardstick between irons. If a couple of the irons miss left or right - when others seem to be on target - possibly lie angle needs adjustment.

 

On loft and distance gaps: If you have 12-yard distance gaps between clubs... except 6i to 7i is 10 yards, and 7i to 8i is 14 yards...

possibly the 7i needs to be bent a degree weak to even out the gap.

 

Blue text above describes an experience a friend of mine had after playing Bridgestones for a month. Irons were a Club Champion fitting and build. CC corrected the yardage gap in final tweak.

Thanks for the replies. Forgot to mention the Ping chart has me at black dot which is what the i525’s are. Unfortunately, there’s not only a lot of snow on the ground, but  hurt my knee, so I can’t get them to the range until the knee heals. I’m so frustrated I can’t get to the range to really see the flight patterns of all the clubs.
