Thoughts on new bbg vid

I saw this video and had seen the northbound video before they mention and I never understood what he was trying to convey. This video helped me see what he was trying to say. I think it's an intresting concept and it reminds me of the ju ju/ wolf style swing. It also correlates to some Japanese videos I've been into lately. Nonetheless, I thought I'd share. Thoughts?

Poor old Brendan. Imagine how good he'd be at golf now if he just listened to Monte's advice for hitting it long and straight in 2015 and had been working on that for 8 years. 🤦‍♂️

And he'd have very few people watching his channel. I think he's pretty pleased with the results so far.

Definitely not a new move LOL.  When Brendon demoed the steering wheel move on the video with full swings he did not actually do the movement in my observation.

I think that the best drills he recommends are the functional swing plane drills.  Doing those types of drills seems to actually help my ball striking anyway.

Love that an 80 year old guy is so active.

All the steering wheel, dumbbell, racquet nonsense is silly - he shows (almost) the only drill needed and with a golf club in hand to get to where things need to go and it's just a simple discussion of wrists/transition (easily found elsewhere and better done and communicated) but in this vid all the stuff that should be talked about isn't and it's just backdoor-ed with Michael Breed-esque notions.

If Brendan had a vid about parallel parking someone would help him advertise it here.

Are you saying that his whole shtick about wanting to be better at golf is a marketing tactic...I was giving him the benefit of the doubt!

No and that wasn't his shtick. The foundation of his content is to present various perspectives on how golfers might improve. Not about himself trying to get better. Sticking with a single instructor to improve his game wasn't his premise and probably wouldn't have resulted in the number of followers he has.

From his blog:

I have set out on a mission to find unique voices in golf that have truly different ideas about how the regular golfer can break the mold and start to REALLY improve. That is what my channel "BE BETTER GOLF" is all about.
I am shooting interviews with disruptive and interesting people in the golf world that have insight to how golfers can be better.

I would say he’s trying to provide content that is interesting to viewers.  Since day one, the golf magazines have published swing tips because the readers couldn’t get enough of them.

Great analogy with a golf magazine!  I would rather watch Brendon’s videos than read Golf magazine.  Before the internet I would read two or three magazines cover to cover every month.  Can’t seem to get interested now days.

Just for clarity, I like many of the BBG videos. But I also think that he genuinely does want to be better at golf and some of the rabbit holes that he goes down with certain instructors isn't doing him or his viewers any favours. I'd watch more of his videos if he had other people getting lessons with the various coaches. Like the video posted by the OP would be much more interesting if it was given to a mid handicapper with a certain swing flaw that the lesson would help. We could also see progress. Why it helps. How it helps. Etc. Instead we see Brendan drilling yet another swing tip and making what for him is a contrived move and I can't help but lose interest because it's not leading him anywhere.

I don't disagree. He's featured another golfer on an occasion or two and I think his audience would really enjoy more of that.

Going to agree that the channel seems to be more along the lines of let's explore all available thoughts on the swing than let's continually improve on our game. I think journeys to study with everyone under the sun should be left to savants who are truly looking for the little things that will push them to new heights, and people like that are rare in any situation.

These videos often lack clarity or weight for the things they present. They certainly don't demonstrate a player who has continually improved and whose game gets tighter by the year as he incorporates what he's "learning". Can't imagine most watching get much benefit either as the concepts are often very vaguely explained and have explanations that don't match up with what's actually shown.

All well and good if the views & money are number one, but that's not at all what the channel claims to be about.

Again, the objective from the start - and what I pasted above from the site - has been to bring a variety of viewpoints to his audience. With the number of subs and views, I'd guess that plenty watching are benefiting, even if just for entertainment and hearing various perspectives.

It is tough to try to come up with something new every week.  All of the golf instruction / entertainment personalities seem to struggle in the that area.  I don't know if you have ever watched Martin Hall's instruction shows on golf channel?  I saw similar problems with what seemed to be conflicting swing drills and advice from week to week.  It would be very difficult to explain the same thing every episode and make it interesting.

So, it is what it is and when I see something that Brendon 'discovers' that is interesting to me I will pursue other content from that particular teacher in order try to fill in the blanks.  There is no universal set of rigid swing fundamentals from setup to finish that work for everyone.  I believe that some day AI will actually figure it out and easily tailor a swing program for any individual based on that persons physical and mental attributes.  Until then, well it is what it is and nothing to do but enjoy the wild wild west of golf instruction.

Entirely agree that one of the weaknesses of Breed/Hall having to present every week on TGC was trying to come up with something. All the golf mags only had to do it 12 times a year and even they tended to recycle fairly often. I get he needs his clicks and views. At least with the actual instructors, if they know what they're doing at worst you might have to wade through repeats.

My issue is that constant content != what it takes to get better. It's fine if you want to be the 60 Minutes or Michael Bourdain of golf technique and showcase everything under the sun. Live your life. Unsure how that fits with a channel called Be Better Golf other that giving you a catchy name most won't forget, though.

You could say the same thing about this forum. There is constant content and debating of ideas. It's why I come here and watch read about golf everyday. I guess I don't get tired of the same things over and over again.

Back to the actual topic.

What I found intresting in the video is the idea of the body moving in the same direction but giving the illusion of it moving in opposition. I've watched all of northbound videos in the past and a couple of concepts worked well for Mr at the time. But that one particular video mentioned I never grasped,  nor cared for, until this bbg shed a different light on it.
