What were you using when you shot your lowest round(s)?

A couple under in my 9 hole league a bunch of times. Callaway x-14 pro series irons. Driver was a bunch of different stuff but definitely a TM M2 in there. Putter was a Cameron Newport 2.  I finally retired the Callaways about 3 years ago for Srixons.

A lot of very good players commenting in the thread it’s fun to read. To me the true beauty of golf is everyone who plays no matter what level has rounds that are “outside” their normal and change in your mind what you believe is possible. It becomes our chasing the dragon in this game. I would imagine the emotions for each player are very similar too. Whether your best is 65 or 79 or 89 I would believe they feel very similar to each player and to me that is so cool.

Shot a 64 back in 2016 during my college days. I think this is what I had in the bag:

- 913 D2 driver

- RBZ Stage 2 3 wood

- Taylormade Tour Preferred driving iron

- 712 Ap2 irons

- whatever the current vokeys were

- original Golo putter

 

Maybe I should downgrade my bag back to what I was using when I was good at golf.

Don't remember the ball used in either round.  Nike One Tour D is a likely candidate, as much as I used it, as is the FG Tour.

 

 

Tour D was the best Golf Ball I have ever played bar none. Better than the TW version out at the same time, and anything else I teed up.

Great thread!  I've shot 76 a few times, anything recent on wide-open goat tracks.  The first two were special.  Recreation Park in Long Beach, CA, in a tournament round and Sea Cliff CC in Huntington Beach.  The Sea Cliff round was one of the best I've ever played as the wind was howling all day.  I was about a 10 at the time.

 

Driver: 9* J's Professional Weapon

Irons: 1, 3-G Titleist DCI 962

SW: Cleveland 485

60*: JC Snead System 3 (May have had instead of 1-iron; don't recall)

Putter: Ping Anser 4

Shot even par 72 yesterday, which isn't my lowest score, but it was the best ball striking day I've ever had. I had 14 birdie putts and only made one. Oh what could have been.

I havent any earthly recollection of what clubs I used to shoot my best score, which is 71. But I have to assume that whatever they were, I sold them away in less than 2 months after doing it.

In my +2 round of 73 mentioned earlier, I hit 14 greens in regulation.  I had one birdie for sure, #18, don't remember if I had others.  One missed GIR was my rinsing my 2nd on the par 5 15th, where I got up and down for par.

 

I remember missing at least six putts of six feet or less. 

 

Just brutal.  🤢

Shot a 65 at Orgil Park a nice 6,434 yd. Muni in Millington, TN way back in the 80s. This would have been done with a 40s MacGregor Tommy Armour driver, early 60s MT Tourney 3 & 4 wood. I can't remember the irons, I'll guess a set of 67 Dynapower Staffs but can't swear it. but I made a downhill 10 footer for bird on 18 with my Ping My Day putter.

I tied my lowest round (6-under 66 twice on a 72/126, previous record a 64 on a par 70 at 71.7/126) in back-to-back rounds this past fall which was pretty electric - my sig is below. 

 

The second round was pretty insane for me - super smooth on the front with 4 birdies and one bogey on a tough par 3, a water ball from the middle of the fairway on the par 4 11th (saved bogey), eagled the par 5 12th, and had three more birdies (left the eagle putt on the par 5 18th for my career lowest-to-par just short).

Had 5 rounds under par in 1993. (Kempsville Green GC - Eagle Haven GC - Honey Bee GC)  Was kind of a crazy year. Never had a driver or a 3 wood in the bag. Got really fed up struggling with my driver so I played around with different shafts in my Ping Zing black dot 2 iron.  I could hit low missiles with the Zing that would run out to about 225-230

 

Ping Zing Black Dot 2 iron.  (1/2" over  DG S-400)

MacGregor M85 Colokrom blades  3-PW (1/2" over and 1 degree upright)

Wilson Staff JPII 55 degree SW  (1/2" over)

Wilson 8813 putter (35 1/2")  (no rib Victory Green iron grip)   (Still have it in the bag today)

Top Flite XL balls  (they were rocks but spun better than some people might think. A hell of a lot cheaper than the Titleist Pro Trajectory balls)

Sometime in the mid/late '90s, shot a 66 on a tough course. If I remember correctly, I had a Taylormade Burner 7.5* driver, Ping 3 wood with a steel shaft, KZG blades 2-PW, a Titleist 56* and a Ping Anser putter. Ahhh, the good old days of hitting it long.

Shot a 65 on a 7047 yard (73.2/132) par 71.

 

Was on my current set, except wedges.

 

G410 plus, sldr 3 wood, Adams a12 pro gold 18°, 690 mb 9-4, 47, 51, 55, 59 Callaway wedges at the time, and a counter balanced Cleveland belly putter cut down to 35". 

 

I was playing with my father on an overcast foggy day. Birdied first 4 holes, played number 5 pretty scrappy tee to green, missing the green with my 3rd shot (par 5). My dad commented, "looks like the streaks over can't birdie them all" and I proceeded to chip in. Played the remaining holes -1 (2 bogeys, 3 more birdies). I normally putt well, it was just one of those days where when I normally would lip out or skirt the edge, they dropped. Also just played solid tee to green. I've had better ball striking days, but I just didn't have big misses and when I missed it was in the right spot. Number 17 is a 208 yard par 3 that had the pin back left. I can't remember exactly how long it was playing but probably about 220. All of it is a forced carry. When I hit it center of the green back edge I knew I had done it. It was a super intimidating shot given the circumstances. I remember my heart pounding. It was especially cool doing it with my dad. 

 

This reminds me, and this is totally off topic, but there is a 290ish yard par 4 at a course we used to play regularly. I hit driver and it ended up like 4 or 5 feet above the hole with a slider putt. He RIPPED a driver and was like 8 feet below the hole. I still regret putting the pressure on him, but I said to him walking up to the green how awesome would it be if we both eagled this together. He asked me to putt first and I made it. I then commented, "do not leave this short", and he left it 2 inches short in the heart. Still bugs me to this day, but almost makes a better story. Almost.

Just shot a 65 yesterday, 1 better than my career best. Missed a pair of 5 foot birdies in the last 2 holes. Clubs are below ... Except putter was a Flanigan "Designed By" and driver was a Callaway Epic.

Week before i beat my age by 1, 69 on a par 72. 

 

Both were with my current baggage which I am going to change soon.  My brain is nagging me with those new driver thoughts

I played Maxfli VHLs prior to DCI 962s - great irons.  Gave them to a buddy who is still playing them last I heard.

Yeah it's one of those things where I'm happy as hell about the ball striking and all the birdie putts, then completely pissed about not making one. Lots of good putts that didn't drop and some bad misses.

 

Glass half full..happy with that round. Maybe time to go putter shopping 🤣
