Bedford Springs vs Nemacolin vs Homestead

I'm looking for a weekend or long weekend getaway from the DC area this summer for two couples. We've done Greenbrier and the Williamsburg places before and are looking to try somewhere new. Wives won't play golf, so we need something with a decent pool and spa or other things to do and decent food. Bedford, Nemacolin, and Homestead all look like reasonable drives and pretty nice and none of us have been to either of them. 

 

Has anyone been to these 3 recently? Any thoughts on best golf and also notes on the best places to go if you're not playing golf?

Haven’t been in a bit, however I am a huge fan of Bedford Springs and the Homestead.  My true love of the Homestead is the old pre-rennovation version which is what Bedford Springs reminds me of.  As far as gold goes, I think the Bedford Springs course is the best (it’s basically a blend of the two at the homestead).  At the Homestead, I am partial to the Old Course vs the Cascades as the Cascades often turns into a 5+ hour round.  While the Cascades course is a great course, I grew up playing great mountain courses and it is just not that special to me (vs the quirky nature of the old course with the views of the hotel).  As far as wife activities go (especially if with kids), Homestead wins hands down - there is just a lot more to do.

 

if you want the absolute best though, skip both and go to Primland.

a little late here, but I can speak to Nemacolin and Bedford.

 

Bedford has the old school feel of The Greenbrier at a bit of a better price point.  Pool area is nice, as is the spa.  I really enjoy the golf course there, always has been in good shape and quite a few great holes.  

 

Nemacolin is sheer opulence.  It's really good, if you can stomach the pricepoint.  If you have the money - do it.  Courses are great, restaurants are great, spa is amazing.  It's world class.

 

I prefer The Greenbrier over Nemacolin, just because of the history component and its "old money" feel.  But they're 1a and 1b.  I'd say Nemacolin's restaurants are better.  Golf is whichever flavor you prefer (Dye or Raynor - I like both).
