TSR2 Fairways - Going left - fitting help

mc2

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Fitted for TSR2 4 wood and 7 wood about a year or so ago, with Mitsubishi C6 Blue X-stiff.

About 50% of my shots with these clubs go left, 50-60 yards left of target.

These shots would start a little left and then really curve further left.

I recently put the fairways in the naughty corner, and threw a 19 degree UW in the bag (stock stiff MMT shaft), which is unbelievably straight - it's immediately the best club I've ever had at the top of my bag.

I always thought my left miss was 100% blamed on swing fault, but the UW opened my eyes big time. Even if I do have a swing fault to cause the left miss, it's not showing up at all with the UW.

Since I've already bought the fairways, does anyone think doing another fitting for a shaft change could be beneficial?

Or is this just a case of swing fault being exaggerated by fairway woods in general (gear effect?), and/or the head shape of the UW working for me better?

Is this anything anyone else has noticed with the TSR2 fairways?

Or is this a miss anyone else has suffered with fairway woods, and were you able to fix it?

I had the same shaft in 50g stiff flex in my driver (also fitted), and I'd get a left snap hook about 1-3 times a round.

After getting the UW, I was curious if I could fix that miss in the driver, which I've now successfully done by changing to a Ventus Blue Velocore 60g stiff.

The successful driver shaft change makes me think there’s a chance I could keep my fairway woods with a shaft change. Or should I sell them off and go all-in on UW (add another UW and work out the gapping properly)?

6.2 handicap for reference.

I had the same issue with my 3 wood, and even though I play all my irons upright 1*, I have used B1 to fix the hooks. Small change, doesn't mess up your grip, and keeps the club from flying through the air and into a pond...

Have you used foot spray to identify where you are striking it on the face?

I play a TSR2 4/7 wood as well. They tend to hook real bad for me when my strike starts to move out to the toe - way more gear effect than my previous experience with other titliest fairway woods. I still love them though..

Only other think I can think is, are you sure the clubs are built to the proper swingweight from the fitting? I have similar issues when I get fairway woods in the high C range.

Could the fairways shafts be too light and therefore exacerbating any tendency you have to hit it left?

Also did you play around with the sleeve settings on the Titleist?

The TSR2s are great heads, so I'd be inclined to keep them and swap out the shafts.

Shafts - possibly. Went up 10g in my driver and fixed a similar issue I had there.

I always had the fairways in the 0.75 flat settings, and at the end also lowered the loft to get right into the C1 setting. Didn't help unfortunately.

Good call on the foot spray. I will check that out to confirm. I'm pretty sure the big mishits are toe hits. It's just weird because I don't hit any other club on the toe.

Interesting to hear you've had more gear effect with TSR2's vs other Titleist fairways. I did lend my 7 wood to a couple of mates for a round each, and they both suffered with same miss.

I haven't checked the swingweight since the fitting, but they were fitted and built by Cool Clubs here in Aus who usually do a good job. Good call again though, might find someone with a swingweight scale and get them checked just incase.

I find this to be an issue when my FW shafts are too soft for my swing speed, or not tipped enough, or just have too loose of a tip profile. Highly doubt it's the club head (unless you're coming from a FW wood that had a much more open face-angle, in that case decrease the loft to open the face angle), but I bet it's more-so the shaft; or the fact that FW woods are simply tough to hit consistently for a lot of people, even low-mid handicappers - I find the going 1/2" shorter than stock length for FW woods is helpful. Titleist tips their FW woods 1" by default - which is a good amount as long as it's the right weight/flex/profile

Long story short: Try a stouter shaft and experiment with the adaptor settings (flatter and/or delofted)

If you open the face (go down in loft) and flatten it and still it goes left... it's not the club.

I have a TSR2 4w and I find it extremely neutral. I have the 7w also and In the stock config it wanted to draw for sure, but I set it from 21 to 20.75 and flat .75 and it hits very soft little draws.

Little lower handi... been playing TSR2 15' 3wd since intro, and gave away the 16.5' 4wd, too high.   I play Ventus Velo TR Blue 5 series S in Driver, and it works nicely too.

If you're hitting Driver and UW are straight, it might have something to do with length of the club, or the shaft profile.

Not sure why yours go left, mine goes where I aim, regardless of the shaft.  There is NO bias, sleeve set at B2.  Normally, I have a Ventus Velo Red 6S or trusty old Talamonti PD-80R in 3wd, but currently testing a PX HZRDUS Red CB 6.0, Gen 4, 59g for something to do.
