Z745 to ZX5 mkii <-- they ballooned

I currently game Z745s in a Modus 105 stiff - hard stepped 1x.  7 iron goes about 160-165 and generally stops pretty close to where it hit.  Today I demo'd the zx5 mkii in Modus 105 - not hard stepped.  The ball went a mile high 155-160 and rolled out virtually nothing on the monitor.  I didn't get spin numbers, but I guess they were crazy.

 

I guess the question I have is if I am hitting a club 155-160, and with insane spin, is there much distance to gain by reducing spin?  

 

I was surprised with how good the zx5 mkii looked, felt and sounded.  Which is what I value.  But I was a little disappointed in their distance.  At least for me.

Did you also compare it to the zx7mkii…???  That would be a more direct comparison, z745 ~ zx7mkii.

I didn't hit mine or the zx7. I'm not considering the zx7 because any move I make is in the interest of forgiveness.  I should have hit it.

The likelihood that your monitor data represents actual use appears to be very low.

Try with modus 120 or another 120 gram shaft.

 

I played modus 105 shafts for a while and was lacking control and high flight.

 

My gamer set is now zx5 mkII with KBS tour 120.

I ask because if you didn’t hit yours you really didn’t test anything. It may have been your swing that day, they may have had a spinny golf ball, or very likely - you don’t carry the ball as far as you think you do. Most shop employees will tell you that every single guy that walks in tells them they hit their 7i 150y. They might be carrying it 135 and then it rolls out etc. When testing new clubs you absolutely have to hit your own club and then look at clear data representing the two in “sets”. Ie hit 10 shots with each and judge. The zx5 are very low spin clubs they do the opposite of balloon for most people so this strikes me as a very odd post. As above, trying another shaft is a good idea too.

I didn't see spin issues with the ZX5's, but did see insane height issues. I've seen others complain that they fly too high as well. It was one of the reasons why I sold them quickly and went back to the Z785's. They may be somewhat low spin, but they can definitely balloon too high for someone hitting 7i with high 80's swing speed.

Best irons out! Although i hit mine high as well. But I’d suggest screwing around with some shafts. Also have the option to go 2 degrees strong which helped my ball flight

No doubt the ZX5 wants to go high - it’s what I love about them.

 

If you don’t need the help with trajectory they’re probably not the club for you

I play mkii with project x flighted extra stiff shafts, 180 7 iron carry. Perfect height and honestly that shaft really isn’t higher than a normal x stiff for me.

It was especially weird bc I'm not a high speed, high ball hitter.
