Entire first page of BST pinned ads

Recommended Posts

Think this is a little ridiculous. Honestly I immediately scroll by all pinned ads. For some reason I find the people who have pinned ads think doing so lets them command a 10-20% premium for whatever they’re selling , often even more. These ads are almost invariably priced poorly and out of touch with current market.

also pinning itself has less value when it’s in a sea of other pinned ads. Maybe put a cap on how many can be pinned at once or quicker turnover? Seems kinda wild to have entire first page be pinned ads.

I'm a little puzzled as to why that's a problem; especially since it's pretty easy to scroll past 'em all.

In any case, they're paying for the privilege.

But do you really go through each title (which doesn't always contain (all) the terms for sale anyway) or read every post to see what others are selling ? You know, like you might go down (almost? ) any other forum to pick and choose what you might want to read ?

I may be different but the only time I go to BST is when I search for something I may be interested in buying - not to "browse". Dunno1.gif

I quickly skim the titles. There’s often interesting random stuff listed.

sure they are paying for privilege  but that privilege becomes diluted and also the rest of the forum becomes worse when there are pages of pinned ads to scroll through. Idk think paying for a pin is probably pointless anyway when tons of folks see the listings anyway and in my experience reasonably priced stuff moves fairly quickly.

Well, based on my viewing of the BST, pinning certainly IS pointless - then again, maybe I'm an outlier and far more people browse that forum, as you do, rather than search it.

But apparently enough sellers believe the pinning does have value, as in the way you read the forum, so I guess they don't think it's pointless.

Anyway, I think it's unlikely to change.

Thanks for the feedback.  The number of pinned ads comes and goes.  There's just a lot right now because it's early in the season and a lot of guys are turning over their bags and emptying their closets.

The BST needs sub-categories. it's grown too large. if that means more mods then fine, get more mods to do it.

Well there is is, simple solution.

I can't remember the last time I bought something from a pinned ad...I usually just scroll past it like the OP said... it's usually sellers who want premium for their items and are only looking for buyers who want the exact item as opposed to someone who wants to "tinker". I browse the BST and I think 9/10 people do as well....you have 11 feedbacks you're sane and not a club junkie hahaha

I never open the pinned ads (for the reasons stated in the comments above), but they don't really bother me.

If I could change one thing about the BST it would be the ridiculous post titles...

If it were up to me (which it's not) I would have a "rule" that you could only post the for sale items in the title. That way you could instantly see if it's something of interest to you. No more of the "got married need money" or " had a baby now I'm broke" crap where you have to click into the post just to see what the person is selling.

Well, there you go, different strokes for different folks. 👍

I do wonder how you came up with your "9/10 people" who browse the ads though. 🙃

When you look at who’s browsing it’s always the same names. But again you’d have to be looking in order to know that. Plus the people who always respond to my WTB post but only sell the item at the later time on the BST. There are a lot of junkies on this site and 9/10 is probably an exaggeration but half the people buy like 80-90% of the things for sale I’d assume

I am guilty of both sides. I browse multiple times a day and scroll right past them all like many others, however, when I'm selling something I'll move it to a pinned ad after a few days to keep it in view. I've had a lot of success with the pinned ads, but I also try to price the items right and work a deal if there's one to be made. I don't like my items to linger because I usually already have my heart set on something else in true WRX fashion. LOL
