DG105 R300 but in graphite

For me it's Steelfiber. I like the 95, 110 isn't bad either. They are meant to have a similar bend profile to DG as well. I've heard people say they feel boardy. I don't get that feeling myself, I find them responsive. But shafts are so personal, you need to try them first.

Do you know of any OEMs that offer steelfibers without an upcharge?

MMT 105 is also something to try. R300 is pretty tip stiff, not a 'soft' shaft per se. Along with the SF suggestion which is also great, if taper the 110cw for example.

Yeah, this. And while I am not sure if SF is no up-charge with Mizuno, I know that MMT 105 is no up-charge (or at least was as of recently). I played the Steelfiber i110 previously, and have transitioned into the MMT 105. Similar performance, but better feel. YMMV.

What about axiom 105's?

I actually nearly went this route but couldn't justify the cost over my DG105 S300's which are a no cost option from Mizuno.

I was leaning away from Axioms bc OEMs don't offer them and there's nowhere local that's any good. But now I see most OEMs upcharge for Steelfibers and MMT, so maybe the Axiom route isn't insane.

There's nowhere here I can try them either.

I'm also in Mizuno, 225s. I was fit into them 2 years ago with a nasty injury. I'm two clubs longer now, but I still love the DG105 r300 feel. I have a degenerative right thumb tendon, and I could justify the cost....I think.

I tried the axiom at a Mizuno demo day before I ordered my 245’s. I personally loved the feel and how they load but ultimately it wasn’t a “need” for me and I still really like the feel of my dg105.

I asked this exact question of Golfworks, because they have in house profiles for the shafts they sell.  Britt Lindsey replied:

Basically found nothing that matches the profile closely.  Looked at the entire graphite iron data base.  The Rapport Core Blue 70 R, the Vista Pro 70 R and Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue 80 R all had the same deflection number and similar butt section profiles.  The Rapport Core Blue and the Vista Pro show a firmer profile in the mid and tip section.  The Grafalloy is firmer in the mid section and slightly softer in the tip section.  Even though these were firmer in some of the sections, my experience tells me they would not play stiffer than the DG 105.  The DG 105 is a firm/stiff light weight steel shaft.  It is important to understand that no graphite will feel like a steel.  You might find similar ball flight characteristics, but none will feel the same.  Also, all of these graphite shafts are lighter than the DG 105, as you well know.  That changes the feel as well.

Chaos, last year I had a cup of coffee in Fuji Pro 95 regulars. It was unbelievable to me how unstable those clubs felt. I think they had similar bend profiles on paper, but good God they weren't even close.

Try them in Tour Spec S flex. Very, very stable.

What about KBS TGI?  Srixon has it at no upcharge. I like the ZX5 mkii.  And I self identify as an LPGA golfer.

You need to be careful with KBS TGI. KBS ties weight to stiffness. So, if you like 105g shafts, but typically play R flex, or a soft S flex, you would likely think that you would go with the TGI 100 or TGI 110. However, I found the TGI 100 plays very stiff and launches quite low. I can only imagine how stiff the TGI 110 is.

Meaning, from a stiffness standpoint, you probably need to go with the TGI 90. But is that now going to be too light?? You see the conundrum. You would need to hit the TGI to see for yourself.

The money a fitting would be well spent I think. The DG I play is 106 grams, so dropping 15g might feel like a bit.

As a guy who has played and liked DG 105 R, I will be shocked if you find a graphite in a similar weight that is comparable.  The DG 105 is not a harsh, low launching shaft.  I find it smooth, with mid-high launch that is appropriate to an R flex.   A delightful shaft.  All of the 95+ gram graphites will be a lot more stout IMO.  But if you find one that isn't, I want to know!  🙂

You're probably right. I like its flex for it's weight. I tried heavier r300s and they felt really weird.

Pretty big difference between DG 105 regular and Fuji Pro Tour Spec stiff.

Same with the MMT105 that's been mentioned, it only comes in stiff, not regular.

@petep5280, have you thought about trying to demo the Fuji Pro stiff, non tour spec model?  It's notably softer than the Tour Spec version, which IMHO relates well to DGS.  I've swung both the Pro 95 S and Tour Spec S, and there's a flex difference there.  (which also displays in the official specs)  Might be worth a shot.

Failing that, Steelfiber i95 regular seems closest, but it might have a stiffer tip.  Or maybe Steelfiber i80 or MMT85 regular, if you can stand the near 20g weight decrease.

Demo/test is key, if you can arrange it

I don't have a bend profile measurement, but the UST Recoil Dart 105g could be an option.

Sometimes if you send a question to the Golfworks on their site under the shaft description, asking to compare the flex to another shaft, they will check their data or do a measurement.

Finding a graphite "R" shaft at around 105g is difficult, most are in the +/- 80g and 70g range.  You might look into MMT 85R.  I am sure they would perform rather well.  As well, KBS C-Taper has a 105g "R" flex, mid-high, low spin option that IMO is a better than DG.

I have been testing MMT 85S, and surprisingly, they hold up to my tempo rather well, but likey to put MMT 95S in T100 3i & 4i.  I have been playing MMT 105S in 3-9i for a while now.

Another person looking to go graphite, but don't wanna change the feel of my swing. I tried some Fuji Pro 2.0 90g regulars last year and they were way too loose.

I currently play dynamic gold 105 gram r300s. I'm curious if anyone has a graphite shaft suggestion. Thanks!

Recoil 95 F4 might be the ticket
