JP Camber Wedges

Anybody got any experience with JP wedges? The Camber is on preorder right now. I’ve always found his work interesting. This one is still high priced, but not as high as the premier. Always wanted to give one a run even back to the Edel debacle, but have never seen one in the wild. Also never got to try the old Edel wedges on real turf. I’m not a fan of artificial turf wedge fittings.

They look interesting. Camber sole seems like it would work well from bunkers and deep grass.

My new 58* Camber.  Best looking wedge grind I’ve played with.  Love how easy it is to engage bounce, but still relatively easy to open up off tight lies.

Just adding here how much I’m loving my new JP Camber 58 degree.  Not only a very sexy looking wedge at address, it flat out performs from a variety of lies and distances.  This JP Wedge makes practicing fun….

I’d love to try the low bounce 58, but it’s a lot to throw out for a wedge without at least putting hands on it first.

When I priced out a Vokey Wedgeworks. It easily justified the JP Camber.  Vokey’s still aren’t forged either.

Had a great conversation with JP and testing the waters with a gap wedge.  Excited to get it next week.  I’m sure other wedges will be following.

Let us know how you do with the gap wedge.  I’m already considering adding a 52 to my 58.

Been working with the 48.  At first too upright so bent flatter and so far so good.  
 

what bounce are you using with the 58?  If you had to guess a vokey bounce number, what would your 58 be?

I have the mid bounce 58 and find it perfect in hitting a variety of shots, whether open face off hardpan or bump and run toe down.  The deeper flange, camber and toe/heel grinds are excellent.  I can see how the higher bounce is good off softer conditions also.  I’m debating on mid or high bounce 52 now.

Connected with JP and went mid 60 and high for 54.

Has anyone played these and the Edison wedges? Wondering how they compare as they both seem to have a pretty unique take on wedge philosophy. Both have unique sole design and seem to want to move CG up the face of the club.

@golftech beautiful clubs. What did they replace for you? Any downsides? I am planning on replacing a 54 CBX wedge with a JP camber, just haven’t pulled the trigger on ordering yet. I’ve been interested in the Edison wedges as well, but they just don’t appeal to me for whatever reason.

I’ve been going back and forth for several years between Japanese Cleveland 588s (forged by Miura) and Joe Kwok custom wedges.  Both really good, but have wanted to try JP Wedges for a long-time.  JP’e camber grind plays similar to the older (50’s- 60’s) MacGregor and Wilson wedges I grew up with that had nice camber and deeper bounce.  The turf interaction with both JP wedges is superb and versatile for a variety of shots.  Plus amazing to look down out, just instills confidence!

I really hope he can have this line in lefty at some point. I get the logistics but feel quite left out of some good wedges.

Didn’t know miura forged some 588s. Jo’s look nice 👍 hard to buy them without trying them for me.

Miura forged limited number of Cleveland Japan 588 designs in 58/52 & 56/52 combo sets only once as far as I’m aware.  I was lucky enough to get a 58/52 set back in 2007.  Used for a long while, had refinished and put back into play again in recent years.  Classic 588 grind but in Miura forged.  
 

Now with my JP Cambers, the 588s are retired!

I have the Edison 2.0 in hand in a 49 and 53, just ordered JP cambers in 48 and 54 (bent to 53) which should be here soonish. I have been liking the Edison's but after hitting the JP they are just as forgiving and felt better in the demo. As far as turf interaction we shall see but I think both Edison and JP seem to have a more functional performance wedge for the average golfer. I feel like Mizuno S23 was a step in the right direction as far as this type of wedge, but I didn't like the grind/bounce (or lack thereof) options on those. The Cleveland CBX line are nice if you want to hit square shots, but the gigantic sole limited versatility for me. These two feel like they have the benefits of some help while still having a versatile and functional sole. I will probably end up keeping the Edison's and throwing those heads on the DG spinner shafts from my RTX-6s. But both of these beat out the RTX-6s which I am already quite fond of, the performance on missed strikes is so much better, and more of a centered COG.

How do you like the BGT shafts?  Are you still playing them now?  And did you demo them anywhere before buying?

Still game them still love them, I demoed them at Club Champion.
