Utility Iron thoughts & suggestions

I love my New Level NLUs.  I bent them back a degree.  The 25* is my 4.5 iron and I find it relatively easy to use from a variety of distances.

The post regarding getting a 4i from a GI set should be where folks also consider is spot on.  I hit the TM series up against the Srixon 4 series and liked the Srixon better.  Im more familiar with Srixon (see sig).  But a standard 4i bent to your specs will do just fine.

As a current Mizuno Pro Fli Hi owner (2023 version), this is a very accurate statement.

imo, Ping icrossover is as good as it gets. loft and lie adjustable and so easy to hit.

I just put a 2 UDI in the bag and we will see if it knocks my hybrid out of the bag. If not, I will either go with a lower spin hybrid than the TSi2 or may even try a U505 / PDHY

Playing the 923 Forged 5-PW.  I had a Mizuno Forged UT for 3-4 months, but the thing was just too big and chunky for me.  It worked off the tee but not so much from fairway or rough.  Had previosuly played the UDI (multiple versions) and found it to be incredibly hot and long.

Tried the T200 4 iron and it immediately went in the bag.  I feel they knocked it out the park with the forgiveness and length combo.  So much so that I added a T200 3 iron as well. Playing same X-100's in all irons, and couldn't be happier.

So I look for versatility. If you are looking, I’d definitely try the TaylorMade trifecta of a p790 long iron and compare it to the new UDI and UDH. I can’t recall a club quite like the UDH. Seems like the forgiveness of a hybrid but without the gear effect problems. Very much a mid flight. The demo was so good I could not pass it up. But I think both heads are going to be very popular.
 

In the same vein, the Titleist T200 long irons are also easy to hit. A lot of guys like that one. But out of all I listed the UDH is definitely the easiest. Major forgiveness across the face and on low strikes. 

Funny I had this exact same experience.  Tried the new P-UDI initially and the guy in my local boutique shop told me to try the P-DHY.  I was  like wtf?  I dont play this sort of  club, sir.  About 15 min later I left the store with it.   The 4i P-DHY carried just short of my 3HY.  So straight , so easy to launch, so forgiving.  Only question now is which aftermarket shaft I want to put into an already top tier performing club in the bag.

Let me know what you go with. I am playing 110g iron shafts and knew the Dart at 90g would be on the edge of too big a leap. It’s pretty good, but I’m going to at least try a heavier shaft.

Targeting a Tour AD IZ 95 as of now. Maybe a DI 105

Just got my 4 P DHY with c taper lite to match up with my $-tapers. Looks so much better at address without the plastic on the head. I went 2 flat on the lie to match up with the red dot on my pings. Hoping it kicks the hybrid out of the bag, but I've been down this road before 😬

I had the PXG X utility iron in bag over summer, 18 degrees of loft.   Graphite design shaft and it was a cannon that for a short time replaced my 5 iron.  Only issue i had with it is that it didn’t really hold greens that well on those 185-200 yd approach shots.  Balls would always sail off the greens at my club so I ended up ditching it (for now) and just bent my t150 5 iron a degree strong.  I probably should have explored this more perhaps with Srixons MKII 4 iron at 23 degree loft which I’m going to demo.  I’m looking for additional distance in certain scenarios but I need the spin to hold the greens.
