#1 Bethpage and Long Island Golf Resource/Community

As you know Bethpage tee times are pretty much a lottery with the demand not meeting the supply of the available tee times. At the 7pm drop, you’re hoping for a miracle that you get one otherwise you’re looking at cancellations or ending up in the infamous car line. 
 

I’ve found a really awesome local community, LongIslandGolfJunkies.com for all things golf including hosting outings and all sorts of events. They’ve got a really active Facebook community and members are frequently looking to meet up and fill out their foursomes (with many playing at Bethpage). Great way to connect with golfers in the area as well as getting opinions and help on all things local to Long Island (both public and private tracks as well).
 

But nonetheless, if anyone needs a local resource, I suggest joining the group as it’s been super beneficial for me as someone fairly new to the area.

   I played Black yesterday and can barely walk today…the two 74 yr olds I played with didnt skip a beat!

Its definitely the hardest walk for a round I've ever done. The 4 our drive back to Maryland afterwards didn't do my stiffness any favors either.

I'm on a mission to get on the black as a single at some point this summer but I've been checking for times for weeks... very rare to see any at all.

I have played the Black as a single at least 20 times. Go there in the morning, look at the board, and join a threesome. 

 

I would guess this methodology has worked 90% of the time.

How early would you say I need to be there?

On a weekend, if you're there by 8:30, I'd expect you'd get a time for a single at some point during the day. On a weekday it's even easier. If you want to get out before 9 then that's when you have to start thinking about sleeping in the car. In my experience anyway. If you don't get on Black, Red is a pretty good back up plan, then Green, Blue, Yellow IMO.

I’ve gotten there at 10-11 and gotten something at 2-3. 

 

I know I’m in the minority here, but as far as I’m concerned if I can’t get on the Black I’m not playing Bethpage. I’ve played the Blue and Green several times, the Red twice. All of them are painfully slow (5+ hours) and just not worth the slog. I’ve had tee times on the Red around noon twice - tee’d off at least half an hour late both times, and waited on every shot for 18 holes. Pure torture. 

 

To be fair, that ☝️ info is based on probably 6 years ago for the other courses. I have played the Black since, but left if I couldn’t get on it.

With COVID, they expanded the tee time gaps and that has made the other courses better. Still relatively painful, but better than it was. Red is good though - always worth that one IMO.

It’s either this or Spyglass Hill. Have done both and I give the harder nod to spyglass. But can’t wait to do it again!!

aside from the Black i will not play any of the others unless its 7am or earlier. years back i played the yellow on a weekday teed off at 1:40 pm in the summertime and putted out on 18 at approx 8:15 pm.  never again

The group also just launched a discord community for those who may not like Facebook. Good way to link up with local golfers as many are always filling out their foursomes, especially when it’s Bethpage.
