Garmin S70/SkyGolf SX400 Question

I have a SX400 that I use to supplement my laser.  My primary uses are longer approach shot distances where laser accuracy is not as important as F/M/B information and distances to landing spots. For the latter item I often use the SX400 touchscreen to move the target point to where-ever (e.g., area in front/behind a bunker or pond, etc). But dragging it in/out of my pocket (or on/off the belt clip or in/out of a bag pocket or ...) is slightly inconvenient (particularly considering now often I forget to push the Lock Screen button). So a GPS watch is of interest to me. 

 

I would also (maybe) like to get out of the Fitbit fitness tracking world to something a bit better and the Garmin world meets that need, so the S70 is of interest to me (price is an inhibitor but not a showstopper). 

 

For those of you who have used the S70, how hard is it to pick a target spot on a 1.4" touch screen vs the 4" (diagonal) screen on the SX400?

I think that I will just attach a related question to this one. 

 

My brother has an Garmin S20 watch. As he describes things this device senses and records every full shot that he takes. He does not have any club sensors so it does not know what club he is hitting. But if he hits a 4 iron from the middle of the fairway on the 4th hole this shot will get recorded and can be part of the round data that he can upload to Garmin Connect (or whatever). As shots get 'smaller' (chip shots, putts, etc) it becomes less reliable but full shots seem to work pretty darn well as he describes things. AND it does not detect practice swings somehow. 

What technology is Garmin using to detect these swings and is it the same technology across the entire Approach line from the S12 up to the S70?

I found it very annoying to try to place targets on the map on the s70 and returned it. I find it much easier in Apple Watch with GolfLogix for example.

I truly wanted the s70 to be all that and a can of chips…it just wasn’t. Maybe the next version…

Garmin watches detect the impact on any full swing and most anything above a chip. It's great for recording any shot that does not hit the green.  For shots that do hit the green,  or where your next shot is undetectable,  it will assume you hit the middle of the green unless you tell it to add a shot from current location. And that's clunky. If you have club sensors then even putts are detected.. I have an S42 I think.  Maybe more recent models are different not sure,  but I'm a satisfied customer. I'll buy another Garmin watch. I don't use club sensors,  and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. 

 

I can only move the pin on mine but it works fine.
