Putting Mats

We recently removed our carpeting a d replaced it with vinyl flooring, which means I have lost my indoor putting green 🙂 

 

I'd like to get some opinions on putting mats, mainly, are ones that have an incline a better training aid than flat mats? I would like to get one with alignment markings.

 Expensive but they do offer discounts fairly often.  Also, watch reviews on the mat.  It is no problem over carpet (tried it over a rug so see how it performed) , hardwood (worked great), vinyl (which I have), etc.  Also very easy to roll up and store.  I ended up buying a small Christmas Tree bag to keep mine in (a duffel with a large enough opening would also work.

Birdie Ball is complete garbage, stay away from that product and company.

Prime Putt looks great, but it is pricy... You pay for quality, though..

I love my Birdie Ball, just don't expect free return shipping and expect to flatten it out when you get it.

I like my puttout so far but I also have a carpet that is messing with it so it's hard to tell.

I like my birdie ball. I drew a line with sharpie on it to get a straight line at one of the holes

Never get the incline / return ones. They teach you to bang putts into the hole with no break. Then, you get on course and smash them past the hole or it's lip out city.

 

Much better to get one without a hole.  Then you can see how far past the hole the putts are going even on makes. Pace control is more important than Start Line, as it limits 3 putts, determines the line to play, and increases the capture rate of the hole.

Thanks. I think you are right. I tried one with an incline yesterday at Roger Dunn's and you really seem to have to give the ball a good knock to get it to the hole. Unfortunately, my son has probably bought an incline one for me for Father's Day, but we'll see how it goes..

You can go to one of the big hardware stores and get a super low pile carpet that feels great to putt on. It is normally a dark green and reminds me of what they have at PGA SS. I also second the Puttout, a great training aid. Birdieball always feels odd to me, and basically impossible to stand on with affecting the line due to how it squishes the material.

I've had few and honestly I have found the Putt-A-Bout to roll as true as any I have had. It rolls up and it's cheap too. The one below is the one I have and it has a slight incline at the end which suits me well for practice. It may not be as elegant as some others but it works for me anyway.

I don't think this is the case at all. 

 

The only issue with Birdie ball is that you can roll it back up with easy like some others. It takes time to lay flat.  For a more permanent putting mat, I think they are great.  Oh ..and get the slowest version imo.

I really enjoy PuttOut’s mat. I got their package with the cup, gates, mirror, etc and find it really helps dial in my stroke.

 

Won’t help you read greens, but will help you get a consistent stroke and contact out of the centre of the face.

 

Also, even through lots of use I find the roll very consistent. I’ve used other mats that wear out in the centre after awhile and this one has yet to do so

I like PuttOuts's products also.  They recently released a mat that inflates to create slope - don't know if it's a good product or not but the rest of their items seem to be high quality.
