As someone using tensei 1k orange in the driver and OG black in 3w & 5w I'd love if they did a counterbalanced 'black' style shaft just to try out

I would love for them to do a counterbalanced shaft line with some new color options, Green/Purple.

The 2024 versions are meant to replace the OG versions, not to fit between anything.

In the model that I play (Red 5R), the OG has a softer tip than the TR or + versions.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the blue velocore + adoption on tour has been..pretty lite? I still see og black being the most used. If it’s just a slight improvement, I’d say black velocore + should get some good adoption.

I agree with counterbalance option. Especially in the TR line. They feel way different balance wise compared to OG Ventus. Always had a hard time getting the feel I like out of them.

Id say the TR line is "counterbalanced" without Fuji actually labelling them as such.

There is no industry standard of what deems a shaft as counterbalanced or not.

I have a TR black in my driver after my 1k orange broke, both in 60g X and TX and they swingweighted relatively the same and felt the same head weight wise.

I find that very interesting. I have 2 blue TR shafts in a driver and 5 wood and feel the opposite. I also have a black 7X in driver and as soon as I put that in it honestly felt counter balanced. Also kinda interesting because the tr handle has less resin because of the material used so therefore the handle has less weight in them. Also I counter balance every club in my golf bag so I’m pretty familiar with the feel

TR handle has the spread tow fabric or whatever nomenclature they use for it but simply put more material and reinforcement in the handle section to reduce hoop deformation, torque, etc. This makes the TR ever to slightly heavier than the original and + models.

Comparing black and blue feels is different since there is that pronounced mid soft of a blue creating that extra waggle comparing to the black with a mild mid softening making it feel more linear. But feel is real sometimes and you feel what you feel and go with it.

They aren't quite available yet. As a dealer, my order is on the way to me, but not in hand yet.

Darn, I was hoping to order a triple diamond max that’s back ordered with the new black+ but will likely have to pull the trigger on regular black velocore because who knows when they will actually hit the order selections on the websites.

Same. I’m swinging 127 and have never had an issue for 2 years and multiple heads (several heads that have cracked too).

Mine (TR Red 6X) snapped but they were good about helping me get it replaced via TM. I don’t swing at 127 though so maybe I was doing it all wrong.

So far there has been a fairly consistent pattern in that (with one or two minor exception) the heavier Ventus shafts have a higher balance point that falls into “counterbalanced” territory and the lighter ones do not (TR Black 6x is an exception).

The Black 7x is functionally a counterbalanced shaft, as are any of the 70g and up models. I balanced the TR Blue 7x compared to the Black 7x and they are nearly the same with the TR Blue having a fractionally *higher* balance point, so the data says “counterbalanced”.

My understanding of the how/why is based on the inherent trade-offs of different design philosophies. Fuji always seeks to maintain consistent handle diameters in the different weight classes. This means that as the shaft gets heavier and the handle diameter stays similar, wall thickness has to increase. This means more weight in the handle on average, hence the higher balance point in the heavier shafts. Graphite Design uses the same approach.

Mitsubishi on the other hand, particularly with the Diamana shafts, used to take the approach of increasing handle diameter to decrease the need to increase wall thickness as much, leading to more consistent balance points across weight classes, but less consistent handle diameter. They’ve since changed this approach a bit to reach a middle ground so the heavier shafts didn’t end up with such huge handles which IMO started getting a bit crazy with some of their designs.

Based on Ian's (Club Champion, formerly TXG) take, it still seems there's a difference in performance even though they're a touch more similar.

I was a black player for over 3 years. Played around with the VF and Diamana WB profiles as well. I’m driving the ball straighter and longer than ever with the new Blue right now. Wondering if I should have even ordered the Black+. There may be something to them being more similar. Never had much luck with the OG Blue.

Are they going to keep selling the original product for a while too? Anyone know?

also, would imagine they tweak black most marginally considering the Black is what led to their market dominance.

Sounds like they are keeping the OGs.  Gives them more leeway in developing new products.

I actually think the OG Black and TR Red are pretty similar.  I still play the OG Black but I've got the TR Red in my backup and it's really good.  I use my launch monitor during almost every practice session and the launch and spin are pretty much identical but I get a touch more ball speed on average with the red.  I've just got too many reps in with the OG Black and a ton of comfort with it to get it out of the bag.
