Ventus Black & Red Velocore+

DooZ

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a Red TR 7S in a five wood, and am wondering what would be best to put in a 7 wood since they don’t make an 8s TR, only 8x. I see the new Velocore plus does have an 8s, 8x, and 9x. Anyone know what might be the best fit for me? Should I try an 8x TR with less tipping, or would either the 8s or 8x in the new Velocore plus be good?

For background, I was fit for/have played gen 4 hzrdus black 6.5 the last couple years. I like it, but prefer a bit more feel and a touch higher launch/spin.

I would think that you could play the TR Red 7S in the 7-wood as well, maybe just tipped 1/2" more than the shaft in your five wood.

So I’m assuming the new plus line is stiffer than the original Ventus line?

You can disregard my findings because I can only compare the TR to the Original to the + in 5R.

But I would say, in terms of stiffness, TR > Original > +.  I will be playing the original in a GT2 next summer.

That could work. I’m a little worried it might feel too light. I’m coming from a hzrdus black 90 6.5 (92g weight) in a 21* hybrid.

Ideally I could just test some options out, but seven wood length shafts are tough to experiment with since they can be difficult to re-sell.

I've tested the Velo+ red that my head pro has as part of his shaft collection.  He's got his tipped an inch.  He said that he should've gotten it tipped 1.5 inches because it doesn't quite feel right and it spins a bit more than he'd like.

Mine is tipped 1”. 118-122 chs no issues with stability. Best shaft I’ve owned after playing og blue 6x/6tx. Never spins a ton in any of my 4 tm heads. 2-2200 (1700-2000 on sim head toe balls).

I scooped a 7x fairways since I loved the 6x tipped 1” in driver. Got it on here and it was untipped…which I was apprehensive about. Zero issues at all 112-113 chs in fairway. No stability issues.

I’ve been down the rabbit hole on Ventus tipping and the more I see the less I think it matters. If you play head weight over stock (more than 195-196ish) maybe there’s some merit. TXG review of untipped vs 2” tipped in red 2-3 years ago showed next to no difference in spin and launch. Mostly feel and a marginal decrease in spin and strike location.

If I have full control over what I own ignoring price I’d prolly tip driver and fw 1” in red and uw 1.5”. At my speed. My guess is there’s a correlation to consistency gains as chs speed changes but it marginal. Head characteristics matter more.

That TXG review is exactly what I was just thinking about. I have an opportunity to get a solid deal on a red tipped 2" for a fairway. At first I was thinking it may be too much, but I doubt it will really matter. Will it behave more like a black with a stiffer tip? Maybe? With all my mishits I probably will not know a difference anyways.

I ended up with a second red 6x for my gt3 tipped 1.5” vs my Tm one tipped 1”. The more tipped one I’ll concede feels a little tighter. It is however .25” shorter 44.75 vs 45 playing length. Losing some of the butt section seems like where the main “feel” of stiffness/tightness is. May cut the tm to match based on the results of playing shorter.

I built a new 21 UW with a red 8x + tipped 2” and again it feels tight but seems to be what I like.

Conversely my 7x+ in 4wd is untipped and I notice no difference. Maybe it’s all nothing 😂

Hope the 2” tipped is great. Should be good like most tour builds!

Looking for some guidance on tipping the VC+ Black 5X.

Currently gaming a TR Red 6X, but ordered the Black 5X in an attempt to get overall weight and swing weight a little lighter.

TR Red is tipped 1/2” playing at 45” in a Ping G440 LST turned down to 8°. SS averages around 110 mph. Typical shot shape is a big draw and I’m wanting to straighten it out. Getting launch and spin down is a plus as I’m currently launching around 15° and spinning at 2600.

Based on the specs below the Black 5X is basically the same tip stiffness and actually a little higher torque. It’s decently softer in the butt too at the lighter weight. If I’m launching the TR Red too high and the 5X is generally softer. Would 1” in tip to start be a good idea?

I was originally fit into a TR Black 6x.  Hit it well and felt like I could swing hard with it.  That said, I'm a tinkerer, so I bought a Velocore+ Black tipped 1" just to test and I ended up selling the TR Black after a couple months.  Main difference for me is the Velo+ Black has a bit more feel to it, I can load it a bit better, and I can still swing hard without getting out of control.  On mishits there's still enough spin on it where it stays in the air a bit longer whereas the TR Black occasionally did a weird dive-bomb

Overall, I'm liking it a lot.  Unfortunately I've only ever hit the TR Blue during the fitting so I can't really give much feedback on the difference.

It is interesting how these have been out for a while now (to include the Blue +) and how little Tour adoption there seems to have been. Most WITB shots are either OG Ventus or Ventus TR. I rarely see a Velo+ shaft in a tour bag of any color variety.

I picked up a black velo+ 6x.  It doesn’t feel the or perform the same for me as the 6x og.  Not sure how to described it but I’ve liked it the least if the og black, tr black, and velo+
