Son of a gun. I don't need this temptation. I love my BRNR Mini but I also love my AI Smoke TD driver. I'm curious how it performs off the ground, because the BRNR Mini is incredible off the turf. It's a weapon on long Par 5's when nothing is guarding the front of the green. The Callaway website doesn't mention anything about ease of use off the ground. Taylormade has had a few iterations now to fine tune that part of the mini driver, so I may be able to resist and stick with my BRNR. It's also bigger than the BRNR at 340 vs 304 cc.

The BRNR excels low off the face and that's why its so good off the turf. Don't think I'm spending the extra on this one unless there are some crazy reports of performance.

Based on the site description it seems like it will be tee only cg

Yeah, I'm thinking BRNR is going to be safe. It's bigger than the BRNR too at 340cc vs 304cc. I love the size of the BRNR.

Funny you bring that up... I was looking to have that done on my fairway wood order. Customer support said I would have to go through like a Golf Galaxy or Local Club to have a flat adapter put on.... Thought it was very strange.

That’s been an option on Callaway heads the last couple of years. Also means the mini is a driver cog so any shaft Ho’s out there, no need to swap off your call at driver adapter if you get a mini to test.

If I go this route would need to rebuild whole top of bag.

pending fitting coming in:

ai smoke td, maybe 10.5 to up spin? Plus I play my drivers short so would like have a mix of adding weight to the back and front, which may drop spin).

ai smoke mini at 13.5°

ai smoke max 5w (was debating this or TD head but this could mainly be a fairway club.)

going out possibly:

epic max ls 9°

rouge st ls 3hl (really only use from the tee anyways but when I catch it, boy does it go)

apex uw 21°

As a lefty, I always wished the burner mini was available in 13.5 instead of just 11.5. I hit absolute bullets with that thing. I really don’t need this, but since it comes in 13.5, I guess why not lol.

Anyone have experience with these Denali shafts? Worth trying? I’m playing (and love) HZRDUS black gen 4 in my fwys right now but wouldn’t mind a slightly higher launch and spin for this club.

You cannot have a flat or strong adapter on a fairway wood from anyone - as Callaway doesnt make it for retail purchase. They are tour only.

Only the optifit 2 (driver only) adapter can be flat or strong and it is an option on the Callaway website for all drivers.

Exactly why I ordered one. Always wanted to try the BRNR but it’s never been offered in 13.5* and 11.5* just doesn’t fit for me.

Me too. Was on the fence earlier of getting a couple AI Smoke fairway woods with some trade-ins of wedges and a putter collecting dust. Release of this mini made me pull the trigger. Don’t need it since I already have the TM BRNR mini (and still within my 100-day playability) and happy for the most part except for the snap hook left I get from over swinging (installing a Ventus Red to see if it helps).

Cant wait to see these two go to battle:

TM BRNR mini with Ventus Red vs. Cally AI Smoke TI with Denali Blue (both at 11.5).

Interesting...

it shows Flat or Strong adaptor as an option.

I ordered strong to turn the 13.5 down to 11.5 if desired.

We shall see.

Interesting initial thought process from your end, why are you thinking of decreasing your potential driver distance? (assuming you can still optimally hit the 9*)

Recently started playing the brnr mini and found my driver distance was too close to the mini distance off the tee, its had me testing a decrease in loft on my driver to try to gap a bit further. For reference, I started at 11*, then dropped to 10*, and now have a 9* on the way to test out. If spin doesn't drop to uncontrollable levels on the 9* I'm going to stick there to push max distance. Then i'll still have the mini that can gap to the driver off the tee a bit less.

Overall what I've found with the mini experiment is that i need to have a use off the turf to justify its spot in the bag. Acts as a strong 3 wood off the tee (but more forgiving) and gets decent launch for what it is. With the ai smoke mini being more catered to tee only and not so much off the turf, I think I'll be able to resist the pre order.
