Booked a driver fitting at PGA SS in dirty Myrtle Beach next Monday. Surely they will have the new GT line to throw in the mix.

I’ve been told they get store demo stock around the 10th so it may not be available

Tell me more please. I've always been hesitant myself.

I was fit into the least forgiving, TSR4 driver, with an ultralight stiff shaft. When I hit it perfectly, it was long, but if I was just a bit off, It was bad. When I went back to the fitter, his response was “ You told me you wanted more distance”.  I told him that if my misses were unplayable, the fit is no good. I know the 2 was played on Tour, and I couldn’t understand why the pros could play it, but the fitter couldn’t find a fit for me. When I traded it, the shop said they hadn’t fit a single person with this club.

With the fairway woods, I was fit into an ultralight regular shaft, and the fitter kept saying that I needed to hit it higher to make the ball land softer when I hit the par 5s in two. I’ll be 70 in about 3 weeks, and I kept telling him he really didn’t understand his audience. I’ve had good experience with Titleist fitters, but this guy was a dope.

Thanks for the feedback! My concern with going to a brand specific fitting is you are limiting yourself right out of the gate it seems.

Very fair concern. If it is your first or second fitting I wouldn’t do brand specific. I do them because I know I tend to get along with Titleist and Ping drivers best so the brand specific fittings let me go deeper into that brands offerings. There are only so many swings in the tank so finding the absolute best head/shaft/setting combo in one session can be tough if all brands are on the table. My titleist fitters have always been great but as with any fitting you run the unlikely risk of a bad fitter . I wouldn’t let that deter you though.

Look a couple posts above. Also, let me say I take some of the blame. I had some serious doubts during the fitting.

Makes sense! I worked at 2nd Swing golf for about 3 years and noticed that the TSR4 was flying off the shelves just as fast if not faster than anything else. But it was always in the heavier weight in the back and light in the front depending on the person! I have one and love it! Unfortunate you had a bad experience!

I think the product was good, but the fitter was just not good at his job. When fitting the fairways, he asked me how far I wanted to hit my fairway wood. Of course, I said three hundred yards. After I answered, he said it was a dumb question. He just didn’t seem as sharp or professional as other Titleist fitters I’ve met.

Wow!! That is honestly unbelievable from a Titleist fitter.  Not saying i don’t believe you. Im just saying Wow!  I have workee with half a dozen Titleist fitters coming through our course and nevee witnessed anything like that.

Very nice of you to take some blame.  But putting a 70 year old in the 4 head is just crazy.

so sorry you had this experience.

I was very surprised by this guy. I haven’t always gone with Titleist, but their fitters were always the most professional of all. I guess there is always going to be an outlier. I’m considering the T350 irons, but I’m not going to use the Titleist fitter.

I mean its not crazy, I just believe maybe he thought he wanted to get more distance which potentially the TSR4 could deliver but also sacrificed forgiveness. It could have been a good set up if he added more weight to the back for added MOI! The driver is incredible in that specific set up. But the other stuff is wild.

Got fitted by Titliest in SoCal at The Grand DelMar @ 7/23,  Had the best dispersion, ball speed and spin with 10* GT3 with 4 Grams of weight paired with a Ventus TR Blue X-Stiff. Expected delivery End of August. Had a great experience.

Correct, and I got short on time or I would have added to my post.

The weight configuration you are suggesting is what Titleist refers to as the GT2.5, I think they said the same with the TSR.   Which is really something.  I wanted to try it during my fitting, but it was 103 degrees and my good swings were limited...ha   But the will be back to my course in two weeks and I may give the "2.5" a try then and compare to my GT2

They stated it as the 3.5* I fit all sorts of golfers into that specific head and weight set up! I couldnt hit the tsr3 worth crap but absolutely mashed the TSR4 in that 3.5* set up!

You know 3.5 makes a lot more sense, but I know our fitter said 2.5, he probably just misspoke.

I had my fitting today.  Swung the 2 and the 3, the 2 definitely was better for me.

They put me into a 10 degree with a VA Composites Drago 55 R at 45” which I really liked the feel of.

the Denali was okay, Ventus Red was no good.  We tried one other shaft that I don’t remember but the Drago looked and felt the best to me.  Not positive I’ll stick to 45” but I’ll start there.

edit: the other shaft was the Riptide blue.  Surprising I couldn’t time that one up since I generally like CB shafts.

Had my fitting today. Currently playing TSR4 9* w/ VF 6X, which I like but it's a setup that I arrived at mostly through trial and error. While the TSR4 is a rocket launcher on center strikes, I've noticed that I have a tendency to lose a lot of distance even on middle strikes when hitting into the wind. Turns out that the launch conditions with my current setup were... not as optimized as I thought (~14-15* launch w/ 2800-3000 spin). On low strikes in particular the spin could really kick up a lot.

For me, the GT4 with the weight forward felt much more forgiving than the TSR4 with the weight back. Ended up getting fit into GT4 8* w/ Ventus TR Black 6X, which brought launch down into the 12-13* range and kept spin between 2000 and 2500 RPM depending on shot shape.

I also noticed a big difference on mishits. The low strike that used to spin up to ~3500 RPM with the old setup would stay around 2600-2800 RPM with the new one. Part of me wanted to get fit into one of the more forgiving heads, but the GT4 with the weight back gave me better dispersion, higher launch and lower spin than the GT2 or GT3.

Don't sleep on the GT4. 430CC isn't that small and especially with the weight back it's shockingly forgiving.

Fit into the GT2 this week. I currently have a TSR2 and it beat it head to head. I also fit into the new VF shaft, love it. I saw about 13 yards increase, better spin, 3mph ball speed, and more importantly MUCH better dispersion. The fairway woods are also way better. The GT2 3 wood completely demolished the TSR2 3 wood. Wasn’t even close. Looking forward to receiving them and playing them when they come in, in about 3-4 weeks.

I love hearing this so much.

This is the info I’ve been looking for. I recently put an old SLDR in the bag. I know the world hated it, but the 430 was a gem for me. Ball speed is slower than my newer SIM and Stealth, but the lower spin nets more distance for me. I’m very straight off the tee, so the low spin heads that make a lot of fitters nervous is exactly what I’m looking for. TSR4 has been on my radar for a minute, but I’ve been waiting to hear how the GT 3 and 4 compare to it. Low spin of the sldr and the ball speed of modern drivers would be huge for me.

You didn't plan to fail, you failed to plan!

Did my fitting at my club and Titleist guy was unable to dethrone the TSR3. As usual great drivers just not worth the change on my end. Performance was better with TSR3 by a tiny margin and preferred it overall.

I play a TSR3 as well, and I’m going to play a bit with the GT at the shop today. Disappointed to hear a lot of people saying this but relieved to not have the urge to upgrade from what’s already a great driver
