Fujikura Axiom Breakage - HELP!!

I did assemble my first Axiom shaft today. What was clearly visible the shaft tip is larger than 0.370 it was more .375 / .376 and the paint is next to nothing. So I had to grind down a first layer of material and on the taper tip end much more than that. I never had to grind that much material on any shaft in the past. Let it dry and give it some shots maybe tomorrow. But now I can understand that shafts will break with this amount of grinding

So I used these  Srixon zx 7 with axiom 125x irons for 3 rounds. I’ve had 2 irons break. Pitching wedge and 4 iron.  I purchased them from a reputable custom builder. He is warrantying them but not sure I even want to play them. Any ideas on why this happened from the pictures below ?

Well, now I am joining the group of axiom victims. It may be hard to see but there is a hairline fracture on my 7 iron right above the ferrule that goes upward about an inch. Was built 6 months ago, do I go to Fujikura about it or the builder (tour van)? Seems like a fuji issue.

My builder said they have been having problems with parallel shafts and shaving the tip down and that is why they started offering the tapered version. They were having these problems a lot. Hopefully I get a replacement taper tip shaft.

Man… just as I started to absolutely fall in love with these shafts… noticed both my 6 and 7 iron shafts are cracked above the hosel. 
 

Fuji has great customers service and already working on replacements. My rep said that my steep AOA and playing off indoor mats the past few weeks can definitely increase the chance of failure - but I’m not sure what to do moving forward. 😔 

 

Could this break location still have to do with the install?

That is from improper install.  They took too much material off the tip when prepping them.  I experienced the same thing and returned mine for a full refund through a reputable online builder. My P wedge and 4 iron broke within 2 weeks of receiving them. Hitting indoors has nothing to do with it.  I have an indoor sim and hit balls daily with my new axiom set. Good luck

Did you replace all of them? Or just the broken two?

I replaced all of them. I had no confidence in the build after that. Since the new build they have been amazing. No issues.

Did you go to the taper option? I have another set to shaft up that are a tapered hosel but I’m gun shy on having the set of .370 tapered due to the breakage issue many have had.

Is it only in prepping the parallel to go into 355 heads this is coming up? Trying to understand what's unusual about these shafts that builders are having issues. I assume there's a reason Fuji released a taper option for direct purchase as they did.

How could this have anything to do with the install?  The break is 1.5” above where any material would have been removed. I haven’t really looked at this thread much but there is a definite issue with these shafts. I’ve played many graphite iron shafts and several I had to sand to taper the tips. I’ve never had an iron shaft break or crack or anything.  I only hit balls off mats at the range. Im a fairly high speed guy. I hit down on the golf ball. I have never had an issue. Just my opinion but there is a flaw in these shafts. I played 3 sets of the Pro series iron shafts with no issues. Graphite shafts are not this fragile

Did they replace them with .355 tapers? Or just more .370

The online builder returned them and I got them built by a local club fitter. They were built with .370 both times.

I think both can be true. The shaft could be compromised at the tip and the crack extends up past the ferrule where it becomes noticeable. 
 

Definitely seem to be more issues with these than other graphite iron shafts, but I would bet a proper install will significantly reduce the chance. 
 

My friend built three sets of these exact clubs for me. Unfortunately it was his first time sanding down parallel to taper and my personal set was built first. He definitely took too much off the shaft when sanding and we even had to rebuild them because a few started to loosen up after one range session (clearly install issue). 
 

the second set we built was MUCH more precise and the person I made them for has crazy swing speed with no issues (yet 🙏). 
 

My gut feeling is that this specific issue is mostly due to the poor install job and I’m going to rebuild them completely with the help of someone more reputable. 
 

At the same time, it’s sort of wishful thinking as I’m in love with this setup.
