Comparison between TaylorMade Brnr and Callaway Mini

Seems Callaway is a bit better off tee and TM is a bit better off the deck? Watched a couple comparison videos and that’s the best I can tell. Just depends what you need it to do.

Yes,

Callaway is noticeably deeper and larger as far as the profile goes. Currently gaming the BRNR as a 3 wood replacement, for my situation I don't even see the need to test out the Callaway after seeing it in hand. Great looking club, just know it isn't for me.

I’ve been hitting both this week. For me it is pretty much a tee only club and I prefer the more neutral look of the callaway. I prefer the more solid feel of the taylormade, and agree the size is better for hitting off the deck. I’ve found thin strikes to do a litttle better with the Taylormade, but Callaway in general more forgiving.

Callaway is significantly higher launching than the BRNR mini for me. Similar distance overall, would say Callaway has a slight edge at least on carry numbers. Callaway is more neutral, BRNR mini needs to be played 2 clicks open to have a square face to my eye.

Haven’t had the Callaway long enough to compare off the deck performance with any seriousness yet.

Seems that basically the BRNR is a larger more forgiving 3W and the Mini is smaller more forgiving driver.   BRNR  a little nicer off the turf and Mini a little nicer off the tee.

Hmm ive seen a few comments that the smoke launches higher, even off the deck. If thats the case Id imagine most would prefer it off the ground.

I do not have the BRNR because it performed EXACTLY the same as the 300 mini to me (which I have two of).  Everyone here nailed it on the head.  I have 13.5 Minis and 13.5 Cally

BRNR -

Easier off the deck, looks (more) closed

Cally

More forgiving, looks square.

Off the tee launch is similar for me, hitting both with a Ventus red(purple).  BRNR more forgiving off the bottom, Cally more forgiving everywhere else, which is why the BRNR launches higher off the deck (typically).  I had 5 guys hitting all three at the range a couple of days ago, swapping out Denali, DIamana, Ventus Red, Ventus Black, and Aldila Rouge TX White in them.  All of us launched the 300's higher off the deck, similar off the tee and all thought the Cally was a better off the tee club.

I will almost never need the 300 (BRNR) off the deck at my home course.  We have 6 par 5's over 27 holes.  None are long enough for me to have that club in unless I hit a horrible tee shot.  4 of the 6 have water and massive trouble all around the green to where the longest club I would attempt to hit into the green is a 5 wood anyway, and some days not even it.  I have rarely seen a case for me where I need a 3 wood off the deck regardless of course, so it make my decision pretty easy.

Now I have a Black (the second one that came out) 300 mini I will probably sell, but will keep the silver faced one as a backup.

So is anyone going to play then full bore as a driver replacement?

11.5 BRNR —> 9.5 / 4* Open

11.5 340 Ti —>9.5 With Tour Strong Adapter?

played with the BRNR option at 9.5 in Ireland when I just need something I could have more control with especially being blown around in the wind.

wonder if anyone else will be experimenting with that type of set up?  Still waiting on my 340 Ti head to show up so can’t comment but I’m itching to try it

I am, yes.  I've been gaming the BRNR as driver replacement for 3 full rounds.
My last round this past Sunday, I played the Callaway Mini for most of the round but I found myself fanning it right.  I don't have that miss with the BRNR, so I'll probably be sticking with the TM.

I set the Callaway (11.5) to the draw biased setting, and it helped a little but still a bit too much right side for my liking.  The BRNR is 13.5 and set straight up.  Both heavy weights are in the front to lower spin.

Have you compared with same shaft setups? (E.g., length, swing weight, tipping)

Both clubs have a VA Composites Nemesys at 65R.  The BRNR is 43.75 inches and the Callaway is 44.  The 44" is tipped I believe an inch, 43.75 is not.
I don't have a swing weight scale so I cannot speak to that.  But it's about as close as you can get without two of the exact same shaft.

Subjectively, I feel mishits better on the TM - especially on toe hits.  And when I really center a swing, I could really tell with the TM, a little less so with the Callaway.

So I changed shafts to a Speeder NX green, and man was that a great choice. I m hitting it far, still a touch high, and straight as an arrow (still mixing in some slight pulls).  Off the tee this thing is a weapon. I feel so confident with it.
I have never been a driver off the deck kinda guy. Could never get it up in the air. I have have two shots from the fairway with this club. First 251 and I hit it about 10 yards short and just off the green. Second time I had 243 and was 8ft for eagle (of course missed the putt).  It feels good off the deck and flies straight.
I love it!

Which one are you talking about - The Taylormade or Callaway?

If you like the shallow face, Brnr is ideal.

If you prefer a deep face the Ai Smoke is going to be best.

I prefer the deep face. I have the Ai Smoke in 11.5*. with Denali blue. I'm teeing it low because it launches high. I'm reluctant to change anything because it's so easy to hit off the fairway. It's a 3 wood on steroids for me with a penetrating and mid-high trajectory off the deck. I used it for my second shots into two par 5's last round with good results.

When my swing is good I hit this straight, or a slight fade. I don't get the hooks I had with my old 3w off the tee. I find it to be slightly fade biased which I definitely prefer. I can hit a draw with it, if needed but I really prefer the baby cut fairway finding tee shot.

This is really an amazing club. I used to practice hitting DOD back in the day and never had a deep faced club like this launch a ball so easily. It's an engineering marvel if you ask me.
