Garmin Z30

I ordered and waiting for the new rangefinder by Garmin. I currently use Garmin s70 or my epix gen 2 as my GPS. But now that the Z30 syncs with the watch it’s going to make it easier. Shot the flag once on the hole and the watch will display actual yardage to the flag. 
 

Are there any reviews here?

i bought one as well, hopefully get it this week and can try out on the course this weekend.

Picked this device up last night at my local Golf here in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Am having trouble getting it to sync up for some reason. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but there is no manual but a bar code to scan for instructions. 
 

Im playing tomorrow so I’m hoping everything works out. The magnet is just as good as the new Bushnell rangefinders. Wish me luck!

FWIW, prob going to return mine. Used it today, rangefinder itself is good, but app didn’t work as expected. Maybe twice on 18 holes did it work like it should. Cool when it did work, but if it’s not reliable, it’s not worth it. Gonna keep using my $100 Costco rangefinder that’s amazing

Used it today and not impressed. Gave me wrong distances couple of times on my watch. It’s more nuisance than help. 
 

Also wouldn’t lock on to the flag too many times.

For those who already have it and are not satisfied, do you think a firmware update could remedy these issues, or are the complaints more deeply ingrained?

I have one and paired it with my s70 watch, mines works great, no problems in zapping the flag and distances spot on. I found it much easier to find the flag than my last few range finders.

The rangefinder works like charm. No problems whatsoever. Almost instant lock on flag and also immediate exchange of data to/from Epix gen2.

Optics are very clear!

I recently received the Z30 as a gift. I already had an S62 watch and used Garmin products for cycling. Anyway,

it over the weekend during our clubs 3 day member guest. I connected the Z30 to the Garmin Golf app and watch without much confusion. The on course experience was really good. Quick read of yardages to pin and provided pin location from front and back. I really liked the yardages for where the pin was located, especially to back pins, and I was able to give valuable info to my partner. Really nice.

 

things I missed from the the Z80 was yardages to hazards between the ball and the hole. My club has a long par 5 that requires a decision to try to clear a gulch on your second shot. However, the fairway crowns so if you’re back a bit, you can’t see the end of the fairway and beginning of the gulch. The Z80 provided the yardage to the end of the fairway. In my opinion, really valuable info. I wish the Z30 provided that info.

 

I would rate it at 4.8 out of 5.

I forgot to mention that updates are through the Garmin Golf app. Before beginning anything with the Z30 make sure the app is up to date and that you connect the Z30 to the app. Make sure the watch is also connected to the Golf app before connecting the Z30 to the watch. It’s more simple than it sounds.

Is it necessary to connect it to the watch AND the golf app during a round?

I never use the app. It works also with just the Z30 and the S70, right?

Do you not get the distance to the hazards from your S62?  I get it on mine.

There's a rather large list of Garmin products with which the z30 will work.

I do get distance on S62 watch to pin, but not distances from front or back. I have been use Z30 for a few weeks now. I think it works very well; good optics, quick location, vibrates when locks on pin. I find I really like the distance front and back, especially tucked pins. As an example, if pin is 5 from back, make I sure I don’t go long.

I just got it along with my Garmin Approach watch and love it.  It's the best combo in my experience.  I've used 5-6 different rangefinders and even when not using the watch, I think it's one of the best.

Any additional feedback on this? The range relay is the big selling point for me. I’ve noticed how often it would be nice to have. Playing partners asking me to shoot the pin, fatting an iron shot (I would never do that🥴). Even with the accuracy limitations of GPS if it holds the pin location to within a couple of yards would be good enough for me.

Apologies if this has been asked but I notice that the range relay feature syncs with the garmin smartphone app and I'm wondering if you can use this with an apple watch and not have to purchase a garmin watch and still use this feature?

Do you need to open and use the Garmin app throughout the round with the Z30 to get the front and back distances?

 

I don't plan to pair it with a Garmin watch.
