the guys on the radio were talking about how the field is considerably stronger than last year lol

It's owgr field strength is slightly lower actually this year.  But it's still (for example) nearly double that of this weeks DP event,  The BMW International.

Edit. And I think it's a good bet that Bryson and Jon wouldn't be teeing it up here anyway.

Actually, I've noted this a bit since the whole LIV deal ...

Well, here's the John Deere final leaderboard for 2021 before LIV was concocted.

For all that's trashing the 2024 field........ I'd say that the JD this year is an upgrade.

I never thought I would agree with the USGA, but the Tour needs to have the same approach to LCP as the USGA. Play the course as it is, and don’t touch the ball until it’s on the green. The scoring at regular Tour events is getting a bit silly. These courses are presenting as much defense as the NBA All Star game.

The PGAT is not interested in defense or having players hit squirrely shots..... IMO

Like the NBA, offense sells, that's what 90% of their fan base wants to see..... IMO

Straka is a good sized guy, but Day is hitting it way past him. Am I wrong thinking that Straka was a fairly long player?

Yeah. He's straight and just long enough to compete, but not athletic long.

https://www.pgatour.com/player/49960/sepp-straka/stats

i wouldnt say he was a bigger hitter but he certainly used to move it 8+yrds further than he has been for the last 2 years

Those trashing the field don't know that the PGAT is more than the top 20 guys.

If I lived close by I'd go for sure. I like watching good golf and this would fit that.  It's annoying to go to a major and be surrounded by all the "celebrity watchers" that come to the majors.   Better yet give me a Champions Tour event to attend :)

For those of us midwesterners that have had the chance to play this course this is a fun watch for us. A nice course on the banks of the Rock River, supported by great midwestern communities and volunteers. Posters that say this event is not necessary in the end may get your wish as John Deere is struggling right now. I never could figure out the negativity on this site with these lesser tournaments. I like to watch golf on TV especially when it means something to a player working to achieve success on any tour.

Posters??..... you mean the top end of pro golfers who won't go to the tournament every year. That should tell you what they think of the JDC.

Ok I'll bite ...... who's your needle mover in 2024?

I'd still watch JS before 95% on any tour.

I'm crazy enough about golf that I'll watch any event. My enthusiasm is less for JDC than a bigger event but i will still tune in. What i meant is I doubt a casual golf watcher thinks "Wow Jordan Spieth is in the field, gotta watch". Do people say this about Jason Day? He was good around the same time Spieth was then fell off

I'm not a Midwesterner. I'm from Chicago 😉

(Actually my sister went to Augustana, so I guess I have some connection to Silvis...)

Agree.  Unless balls are actually plugging consistently, I would never go lcp.  Play it as it lies.

Its 2024. Jordan Spieth is not a needle mover

I’d say that he still is, but maybe shouldn’t be.  But lots of former golf stars remained needle movers long after they were truly a threat to win week and week out.  As a fan, what bothers me the most about Spieth right now is both his poor decision making and his body language on the course.  He looks like a walking ‘Wanna Get Away’ commercial these days.

And if balls are getting plugged, you already get relief. So who needs LCP?

But if balls are actually plugging, then a lot of balls that don’t plug are probably still getting massive mud globs on them, which kinda makes things too random for me.  But I do get tired of seeing lcp every time balls are even getting dirty these days.
