Titanium Inserts?

Anyone ever play a putter with a Ti face? I’m gaming an EXO 7s at the moment, but the face feels dead. I love an audible click having used flat faced, steel blade putters for years. The face tech/dull feel also has me over running long putts on many occasions. I don’t get good feedback from impact. 
 

Im likely going to fashion a flat aluminum or Ti insert to replace the WH hinge one in there currently. I want lightweight, but aluminum is very soft and prone to damage. 
 

Wondering if anyone has experience here?

working with ti? Yah

 

It is incredibly hard to cut and shape so just prepare to invest the time, ti work hardens so easily 

 

personally I’d just go 6061 it’s hard enough (significantly harder than the poly inserts used) but ti is cool so go for it if you want!

Depends on what you’re using.  I don’t find titanium difficult at all if you use correct feeds and speeds.  A portable bandsaw and belt sander would eat through titanium easily.  This is 7/8” thick titanium cut with a portaband and edges cleaned up on a belt grinder

I’ve made faces, and entire heads out of titanium and timascus.  Feel is similar to carbon steel.

nothing powerful enough to get the correct feeds and speeds for ti lol my mill and lathe are hobbyist stuff, just can’t keep the speeds up enough to move fast enough to avoid work hardening but bigger machines with better coolant handle it fine. 
 

I’ve cut a few thinner plates to use as heat sinks behind race pads and it’s always killed cut off discs 

but again not the end of the world just takes a bit more time

Everything I’ve made so far (hundreds of knives and 100+ putters) has been on a Tormach 440,  or a 3/4hp manual mill,  with bar/flat stock cut with a sub $300 portaband you can get at any hardware store.  Correct strategy matters as well but don’t need big equipment.

Have you looked at the inserts spryevo.com makes? They offer copper and aluminum metal inserts, in addition to non-metal ones. Would be a lot easier than trying to build one to the proper size and thickness. Just need to verify with them if they support your putter. I used one of their carbon inserts on a Ping putter and liked it a lot.

Ti should be workable with an angle grinder and bench grinder for cutting and shimming to correct size

I do make putters. Discussing the sale of said putters is against forum rules. Not hard to figure out who I am.
