Irvine Trip

Have an Irvine trip coming up that allows me to golf this Friday and sat. Would like to try and get in 36 this Friday and 18 sat morning.

Don’t mind paying a little more for a nicer course but more looking for a good value. Was looking at Oak Creek or Coyote Hills?

Oak Creek is the better of the nicer courses in the Irvine area and always in good shape (with the exception of the practice range conditions, which are abysmal lately). Dunno that I'd call it a value but I'd pay to play there well before others at similar rates. I haven't played Coyote Hills in 15+ years but recall it being an ok track for the price at the time. If you have the time, the best value is still probably to be found about 45 min away at Goose Creek (could be much longer drive in traffic hour). You can also head up to El Dorado - a muni but a good track and affordable - but would want to get off early to avoid a long round. Closer than ElDo is Navy, but it's been a minute for me so maybe wait for someone else to weigh in on it. Back when I used to play it, it was my favorite value course around. Not really Irvine, but maybe only 20 min away, depending on where in Irvine and time of day.

You might want to consider walking on as a single at San Clemente Muni at dawn, and then Oak Creek for a twilight/afternoon round when the rates get a little lower?

 

Played Navy about a month ago and conditions were great (for a muni). The greens always roll pretty true at medium speed, can play a little longer depending on the time of day you go when the wind picks up. Great value there.

 

Both Costa Mesa courses will be a good value and great conditions since they're gearing up for the city championship next month. However, that afternoon round is going to be looooooong.

 

Another decent value is El Prado courses. VERY BASIC golf, but scratches the itch. Overall conditions can be hit or miss but they do take better care of their greens there. Los Serranos would be a step up but then you're getting into the $90+ per round territory

Which is why I didn't bring them up.

 

But if you're an early riser and can get out within the first few hours of the day, they're excellent choices for the money!

Strawberry Farms is my favorite in the area.

Pelican HIll is very expensive, but amazing.

Tijeras Creek is pretty good.  Similar to Strawberry Farms.

Black Gold is also worth checking out.
