Custom Royal Payne Putters - what a steal!

Hey all!

 

I haven't been too active in the putter game since having kids, but couldn't resist getting a build done with Nathan at Royal Payne. 

 

I've been watching his work for the last little while, and his work has become really clean.  For right around $400 USD Shipped, you are getting some pretty decent work. 

 

I ordered what is essentially a slightly wider blade...

 

RP1 Plus

Carbon

365g

Longer Plumbers/Less toe hang

 

Just starting to get some details back, and things are really coming along nicely.

looking for my gamer! haven't spent that much money on a putter before so thinking this will be an investment in the long term. looking to do a super standard and clean RP2/anser2 shape with plumbers neck, minimal stamping/branding, and a few slight aesthetic modifications!

That's the best part of Royal Payne. $400 is peanuts for a full custom like this.   I'll post more pics as we go, but I'm really sold on his work.   Looking at his High Toe blade model next!

Sweet sounds good! Have you heard of Gideon putters? They charge a similar amount and I was looking into doing one with them too..

I have one of Nathan’s putters as well. Bang for your buck, these are unbeatable. Nathan is also great to work with as well. I wouldn’t mind getting another one at some point in time.

Thanks! I reached out to him to soften some of the edges on the RP1 model he has to round the bumpers and it really came out great.

Haha so cool to see how people have their own tastes-- i requested the RP2 but with less rounding around the bumpers haha. The exception being the inner edges of the bumpers where it meets the cavity. i like the anser 2 shape but with those corners less sharp

Btw how do you like that pyramid milling? i love the look of the tight milling but i figure that pyramid milling is a bit softer (which I prefer)

I like it. It’s not the softest/quietest putter I’ve ever putted with, but it’s a nice blend of quiet while still giving feedback.

I got a few updates before shipping. I'm leaving it raw to patina a bit, so I opted for no paintfill currently.

In general terms, a builder like Nathan can make the putter look and feel however you want.  He can hit so many  weight and specs setups. 

 

I believe this putter in particular has a section on the sole removed to help increase forgiveness.

 

Milled putters are all pretty equal in terms of performance once you have your desired setup.

I do game it right now, and I think this sums it up pretty well. It performs just as well as any other milled putter I've had.

out of curiosity, how long was it from being notified of project start to it being shipped to you?

I believe I was right around 10 weeks...which is exactly what he said.

Mine's being worked on!! i'd asked for the RP2 model but with slightly less rounding along the edges of the bumper as well as a touch more rounding on the inner part of the bumpers (where it follows the cavity shape)- not sure how to explain that part haha. super excited!
