As a non-belt wearer, what type of belts should I look for?

I don't normally wear belts, I don't require one to keep my shorts/pants up, so go without them unless it's called for, eg formal wear.

 

What type of belt should I look for, where it doesn't feel like I'm wearing a belt? Would it be safe to say a braided/woven style belt is the most comfy?

I would guess the lighter the better. Just, whatever you do, for the love of g-d, do not wear a white belt. Ever.

When choosing a belt, I go for one that keeps my pants up.

I'd probably lean towards a web belt.  Lightweight, cheap enough, and any color you could ever want available

Just find a webbed, stretchy one. They come in tons of color option, and it's probably your best bet for something you won't notice you're wearing. 

 

You can get a decent quality one from someplace like Ghost Golf, or you can get a cheap on on Amazon.

Nexbelts - the ratchet belts are without a doubt the best invention on the planet.  I have golf belts, dress belts, and all between.  I love having it be very adjustable as someone who's weight can ebb and flow and pending where I want to wear my pants on my waist.

I would definitely get one of the stretchy woven/braided style. They are the most comfy and look good too. I fall into the same camp, I only wear belts for golf and dress attire.

Nexbelt is awesome. The buckle being kinda bulky is the only downside I have, but the adjustability outweighs it for sure. It's a godsend since my waist size also fluctuates a ton, and being able to undo a couple notches after a big meal is clutch.

Yes, a braided/ woven style is the most comfortable. The only downside is that they don't help keep your pants up if your pockets are loaded up.

I guess the benefit I see of spending on a nice belt is that you don't cycle through them, a standard blue/brown/black belt thats a Nexbelt has lasted me like 7 years, so its like a quarter a wear.

 

I will add that I've only ever bought them using proshop credit, so that kinda "makes it hurt less".

Plus I mean to me, you don't need/have to spend $200 on a belt if you never wear them anyways and are considering nylon weave belts.  I'm a believe (when it comes to clothing at least) is you get what you pay for.

It’s the only belt I wear anymore. Don’t care for the suede version but otherwise they are brilliant. $60 when I bought them.

If a garment has belt loops I feel like a hobo going out with no belt. And I'm not any kind of formal dresser.

 

And a belt is a belt, imo.  Its given zero thought once its on.  My stupid costco stretchy belt goes on backwards somehow every time.

I really like them for sure.  The only ones I have issues with are the weave ones because I only have 2 buckles so I have to switch them around and getting the buckle on the woven ones are more difficult for sure.

I should have clarified as I’ve only tried the smooth leather and suede versions. Smooth leather works best for me.

Yep same, its the only ones I have.  Best belts around, if my club had the exotic ones I'd use some proshop credit to get myself a fancy alligator one.

Another ratchet belt to consider if you like colors and patterns is Buca Belts. The buckles are all the same (stylized B), but the belt patterns and colors are wild and fun.

My go-to for ratchet belts is Mission Belts. I like their buckles and style better than Nextbelt--smaller, lighter and less gaudy.

+1 for the braided style Nexbelts. Plenty of deals to be found too. New ones often show up on eBay for $30 or so. Absolutely worth it. I have 5 in various colors of leather and braided and never paid full retail for any of them.

My vote is for the web/braided belt, whatever you want to call it.    Always fit and most have a slim look.    My major strikes against Nexbelt, Anson and all those companies like that is the belt buckles were always way too bulky for golf.   IMHO the look horrible and definitely don't do any slimming.   It's been a few years since I looked at any of those companies so hopefully I am now wrong and they've shrunk some of those monstrosities they used to call belt buckles.

I'm not a fan of large buckles either. Even Colin Morikawa's usual Adidas buckle seems too oversized.

 

That said, I find the Nexbelt buckles to be very normal in terms of size compared to other belts I have. For reference, here are my belts, side by side, along with a stock Nexbelt image.
