Yeah agreed, it's frustrating that is the case. It's like we're living in a time where modern medicine has displaced all the "old" methods, but there is still a chance for a doctor to prescribe you leeches and cocaine for your headache if you go to the wrong clinic. 

There will always be some dark art in swing instruction, but ideally that moves more and more towards *how* to communicate fundamental "truths" that we know and less about what those truths are.

I think the solution will be technology.  Instead of going to a golf pro for lessons a person would go to a place with an AI controlled system.  The system will do some sort of physical assessment and develop an ideal swing displayed by a 3D avatar.  Then the system will guide the student through setup and swing with real time feedback.  No more leeches and cocaine.  Of course there will be those who argue that the AI is wrong but I think that will disappate over time.

I'm at the point with my health that I'm more than willing to sign up to coke and leeches!

Yep. I agree. And to reply to @Nels55 at the same time , a thought came to me. 
 

I read alot here , wayyy more than I comment ( hard to believe that right 🤣. It’s true ) and I’ll often see “ Doctor so and so … or mr such and such”  referenced as proof of concept .  And of course I have the ability to search and find those people and see some of their material.  But the thought that occurred to me was “ where are they finding these folks “ to begin with?  And it must be Instagram or other social media.  So that led of me wondering if I was the only oddball that has never been on those things.  So I searched that stat.  To my surprise- it’s said that only 3.9 % of men 45-54 have an Instagram account.  That shocked me. And it only goes less as we age.  So roughly 10 % of the male golfing public over 45 have an account. That’s not many.  Speaking for me .  
 

point being.  Most of this stuff is a foreign language to most of us. And on top of that. Can be a real culture shock.  I’m not sure if AI gets there in the next 50 years Judging by those social media numbers. I honestly thought it was 80 % or better.  Interesting times.

How does someone sign up for that "wrong" clinic?  Asking for a friend.

AI will be used for great things and horrific things.

 

The issue at hand, as it has always been, is that human nature has no history, ie, it is the same now as it was on day one.

I think the real issue is that a lot of teachers now have access to great equipment/tools/tech, but can't actually teach themselves.

 

So essentially, a surgeon with the best gadgets, but didn't go to medical school. They went to a "3 day master class certification".

A great teacher with no equipment/gear/tech will out-teach a bad teacher with every gadget at his disposal eight days a week.
