MEVO + Overstate Driver Carry Distance

MEVO + data from outdoors setting while using on the driving range, local weather conditions set. Drive carry seems to be overstated. Does data below reconcile with how far the carry should be? Ball appears to clear the 250 yard flag, but cannot visually see by exactly how much, still Mevo seems to be overstating the carry distance.

Mid range iron shots appear carry yardage appears spot on.

 

The carry yardage is just math based on ball speed etc. Swing speed and ball speed seem in line with game. But the carry yards just seem much further than it should be based on my numbers. I would love the formula that Flightscope uses to calculate carry yards.

 

Could you expect 298 yard carry based on a 154 MPH ball speed and 2723 spin?

I would say with that ball speed and spin carry it would be more around 245-260 yards. Considering your launch and AoA - at least what I have seen earlier.

Something does look a little weird, it seemed more accurate towards the bottom.

 

One thing that sticks out to me is the smash factor, it is all very low with 1.42 being the highest. This would tell me you didn't find the center of the clubface at all in 30 or so shots. Range balls might have some impact but I don't think that much.

 

Does your swing speed look right?

Actually if using range balls that 1.42 is pretty good. I have noticed that my normal 1.48-1.5 smash is ~1.43 with range balls.

 

but on table those 1.35-1.39 smashes aren`t good at all.

The MEVO+ software need ball information. There are Range Balls and real balls and RCT balls available. From my experience the golf clubs that offers 2 piece range balls from good quality the MEVO setting for the ball must be standard ball. If your range uses cheap range balls, choose Range ball. 
our club uses the better 2 piece range balls and if I set the MEVO on Range balls, I have the same experience like Jogolfer. 
the short and mid irons are spot on and the longer sticks are longer than the real results, but our range balls are not far away from my gamer balls. For the driver the results with wrong settings are about 10-15% to long. Looks good at first, but it’s not the reality

Yeah it might be down to the range balls, which of course is a very broad, maybe the OP can comment on the balls used. From what I've seen nice newer range balls might max out around 1.47 but old / poor quality ones will certainly be much lower.

 

Mevo software algorithms compared to what ball is selected and what ball is actually used could certainly throw the numbers off.

I’ve seen similar results with ball choice on my mevo plus. Hard for a machine to account for a new range ball and one that has sat on a poorly draining range in a puddle for two months.

If you have "range ball" selected in the MEVO software, it is giving you the correct ball speed and spin that the range ball actually has, but is intentionally inflating the distance based on what it thinks it would be with a normal ball. The software says it does this somewhere when you're selecting ball type

I don't know much about launch monitor tech so forgive my question. Why doesn't the Mevo+ radar track the ball the whole way it flies on the range and rather calculates it?

This is all going to be relative to the type of tracking sensors used, be they RADAR, Visual/Infrared, or RADAR + Visual/Infrared.

 

For Trackman, Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) sounds impressive.... But all it literally is saying is it's a radar unit which is aided by optical sensors. The Radar unit itself is of higher resolution than a MEVO+ unit to begin with, and the optical sensors just add to the accuracy which thus enhances the price tag as well. The Resolution is the key here.

The GC Quad uses infrared and high speed visual sensory input (a high speed camera 😄 ). The high speed camera itself is going to be a big reason for the higher cost because those are quite pricey on their own before adaptation to a golf sensor suite. The software then breaks down the Infrared and Visual to convert the observations it is able to collect to the final results.

Mevo+ uses only RADAR (low power Doppler) via a phased array (group of antennas) to detect and measure ball flight. It's costly, but alone not as costly as a full resolution RADAR unit. It cannot see the full flight, and cannot be reliably calibrated to do so because it is not omnidirectional. It would lose the golf ball at some point.

The FS X3 uses a full resolution RADAR unit and also costs several times more; which should be a good indicator as to why the various offerings come in at such a wide range of prices. 🙂
