Tip Trim DGx7

I read through Howard’s post but I want to verify here… I put a wedge flex x7 into a gap wedge and like it enough to try it in a sand wedge. I don’t have a wedge shaft laying around but I do have a spare 8i shaft- if I tip trim that to match step pattern would it be the same flex as the wedge shaft?

It would be close on flex, however you won't get the shaft into the head because the taper tip shape would be gone, and the diameter of the shaft would be in the range of .400".

Should only be 3/8 of an inch or so- I don’t have calipers but the parallel section looks like it would have plenty of room? Is that not the case?

This is correct.  It will also be significantly lighter than a wedge shaft when cut to length.

Tiger has X100s tipped 1/4” so 3/8” won’t be an issue.

I'm going to back pedal a little...

 

A wedge shaft is 37" raw.  8 iron is 37.5".  If you tip the 8 3/8", it should still fit into the wedge heads hosel.  The flex will be a smig softer than a proper wedge shaft, but most people don't swing all out with a SW anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem.

What are you really up to here?

There is no "wedge flex x7", so what shaft are you talking about?
The next is, "spare #8" of WHAT?
X100 and X7 has the same step pattern

What IRON shafts do you play?

I play x7 in my irons. I believe 9i and P wedge shafts are the same. I put a spare wedge shaft into my 50* and am looking to use the next spare shaft in my 54. I am trying to get to the same flex by tipping that shaft to the same measurement as the shaft I put in my 50* if that makes sense

All the shafts I am working with are the same.. dynamic gold x7

Then its strait forward

#9 is the shortest, to make a PW we need 4/8" tip trim, to make a GW flex, we need 1.0" tip trim
Anything further than 3/8", will most likely mean insert issues = a ream job to 0.370 is needed.

Use the DG X7 #9, tip trimmed 1.0" for GW, SW and LW
