The Summit Club- Armonk, NY

I've been looking for a private club in Westchester county and came across The Summit Club. I understand they are waiting for approval to build residencies at the course, and they are trying to build up their membership. They are offering a 3 month trial for a fee, and half of it can be applied towards the initiation if you continue to membership.  I visited around 10am on a Saturday and the course looked to be in very good shape. I didn't see anyone playing on the holes in view (crazy!). Is anyone currently a member there? I would appreciate personal experience.

Not a member but played the course @ MGA play day.

 

I was underwhelmed by the course. Conditions were average. Had a few quirky holes. Short par four teeing off on top of the hill limited view of where ball lands  Long par 3 back up the hill no view of the green.  Several holes similar that ran parallel to each other.

 

Didn't use the range but they did have one.

 

They did feed us before and after and it was again average.

The Summit Club was previously known as Brynwood Country Club, and prior to that, the Canyon Club. It is a very quirky course. I'm not a member but I played there many times when it was Canyon and Brynwood, but haven't been there since the new owners hired Rees Jones to make some modifications to the course. I took a quick look at Google Earth and it doesn't look like they changed the hole corridors/routing very much, if at all. The course is situated  on the side of a steep hill and many of the holes play perpendicular to the slop so that the fairways are tilted. Other holes play straight up the hill like #8 which a long uphill par 3 or downhill like #2 which is a downhill dogleg right. I grew to like a couple of the quirky holes ( #5 a steep downhill/sidehill tee shot to the bottom of the hill, followed by an uphill approach and #7 with an uphill tee shot to a fairway that sloped steeply left to right which was a slicers' nightmare). I hope they were able to do something with # 11 which was a terrible hole.

Great pics. Looks beautiful in the Fall. From what I’ve heard, they have zero amenities until the residencies are built and they expand. It’s a lot of money for just golf, but I guess you get in early before they raise the initiation fee.

When it was Canyon and Brynwood they had a decent clubhouse with excellent food and a nice swimming pool.

Place is a dump they have a hell of a nerve charging 50k initiation fee
