They have sent me several of the metal TT bag tags, though.

lol just one of those for me

I actually like the rubber ones better.  I got a couple of those, and put them on different bags.

They have been very generous over the years with random gifts.

This has been my experience. I’m not a high spin player by any means. V1 and V1X are very similar off the tee for me. I want to play the X due to the control around the greens and the firm clicky feel which I like but I am easily a half to a club shorter on all my irons and wedges. Ball just seems to fall out of the sky for me

I'd get on a launch monitor and see where your spin rate is on the irons/wedges.  I switched to the v1x because I get a case of them every year for a team I coach and the players don't always use them...so I have plenty of leftovers.  The clicky feel bothered me until I just played them for a while and got used to it.  The iron spin on the v1x shouldn't cause that big of a difference in distance all things being equal.  I get slightly higher flight/apex (vs prov1) and about 150 to 200 rpm difference.  My 7 iron at 33* is 94mph chs, 127 bs, and about 6300 rpms at 19 launch off the top of my head.  The v1 launches almost the same but flies a little lower at about 6100 and change on average. ('23 models). So for me that difference is pretty small and they go almost exactly the same distance.  On driver/tee shots i'm if anything slightly longer with the v1x in calm conditions but were talking a yard or two at most.  I do notice the biggest difference in flighted wedges/ pitch shots as the v1 comes off the club lower.  Its not a huge deal though.

Any chance Titleist offers a buy 3 get 4 deal to match their promo from last year?

I see Taylormade is offering the 4 for 3 deal at the moment. I don’t want to miss that if Titleist skips this year.

Sounds like it’s usually March for Titleist, asked the same on previous page, got a reply

March 17th through March 30th this year per an e-mail I just received from a local course.  Not sure which shops/retailers might be offering the option to pre order.

In theory the pro v1 would be better than the x since it has a lower launch and spin for a more penetrating flight.

Usually the one with deeper domes helps too

  • 2 weeks later...

These new prov's are travelling shorter than the older model!

I had my suspicions, so then put them up against each other a lot lately. And time and time again they are shorter on drives, long irons and approach shots.

Rolled back ball?

I'm stocking up on the older model.

hmm. Most of the reviews I have seen and heard reported a +1-1.5 ball speed deviation that translated into more total carry.

How much shorter and are you using a launch monitor? They should spin a couple hundred rpms more so potentially that could make them a few yards shorter for you on irons. On driver they should certainly not be shorter and they havent been in the testing ive done on trackman the past month or so.

Good. Im really hoping my experience is an outlier.

It could certainly be a thing for you, though. You're not going to notice the difference/benefit in increased ball speed with anything less than a 7 iron because the delta is minimal. But I also see the ball spinning more in the long irons. So, if you benefit more from less spin in 7-4 iron, the '23 may be a better fit. The driver is going to be similar between the two as well.

All the irons are consistently half a club shorter.

I can't definitively say the driver is shorter, as I'm a little inconsistent with it.

Around the greens there seems no difference.

So overall they are worse for me.

Would need more info to determine if shorter=worse ball. There is a near 0% chance they are half a club shorter from ballspeed alone. If it is due to spin then it just depends on your flight characteristics. For example if you used to carry 150 with a total of 165 and now you carry 152 with a total of 158 Id argue that the new numbers are better. If on the other hand your shots are ballooning from spin and you are losing carry then ya thats bad. I doubt the extra 300rpms in the new version would cause that but if you play a slice then that is possible.

Just don’t touch the left dash…

It's interesting all the 30 handicappers I hear about picking up the Left Dash in an effort to reduce the violence of the sidespin slice.  My local retailer says they get as many of those folks as better players picking up the left-dash.  Seems misguided.

I see this a lot.  Along with folks that top out on the trackman at 105 - 108 mph buying low spin heads at 8 degrees and tx tipped driver shafts in and effort to keep spin down.
