Iron shaft most like Ventus black 10tx

Recommended Posts

I recently built up a 2 iron with a Ventus black 10tx straight in and it’s the best feeling club in my bag.

Are there any iron shafts that are similar?  I’ve been in the heavy steel stuff for the last 20 years but loved the feel of the lighter weight Ventus.  Super stable with some feel, and I can walk up to the first tee with no warmup and swing without issues.

I’ve hit the axiom in 105 and it did not feel the same.

Following this. I've had Ventus Black HB 9tx in a driving iron for a couple years and absolutely love the shaft. Favorite club in the bag. I also tried Axiom 105X in a 4 iron and hated it. Been narrowing down on iron shafts recently but curious what others think about this.

I would say the closest graphite equivalent would the LAGP L-Series in either 5 or 6 flex.  Stout and linear with just enough feel.

I forgot about those!  I played the L-5.  Definitely had some feel.  I had swingweight issues with those.

does the Bryson shaft have the same swing weight issues?

Not sure, but I think those are meant to be played one length style.  If that's the case then you would definitely run into swing weight issues if you tried to do a progressive length setup.

I'm leaning toward going back to PX 6.0. I've been using DG 120 X100 the last year and love the feel but I tend to get a little quick at the top and miss left when I do that. While I've been working on my transition and want to think I can get consistent enough to not do that, the reality is PX tends to help mask that swing issue better for me.

I will echo this. I have a driving iron with 9TX I enjoy and play L-Series 5. Weights were a little light but I have added lead tape to all my heads and found a sweet spot with them now.

You've tried the LAGP L-series, right?

I've not tried the VB hybrid shafts.  I have tried the OG 7x, and loved it.  Currently using 1k Black in both a wood and a hybrid, and that gets me 90-95% of the way there at much less $$.

All of which is to say, that the LA Golf L-series feels a bit like the above, but for irons.  Lower flight, lower spin, can get aggressive in downswing and not overpower it, etc...

Quite stiff for the rating, and thank you all for letting me know beforehand.  4 is enough for me, but they make 5 and 6 stiffnesses too.

Have not tried either Axiom or MMT.

And I see you've already tried them, lol.

+1 to swingweight being a concern.  I guess the uber stiffness related to the label, doesn't matter much if you're just going to slather lead tape all over the heads anyway...:classic_biggrin:

i just really like the way the ventus 10 works when im not fully warmed up or feeling my best and stand up to anything I through at it.

(My best results came from standard px 7.0 and x7.  Too much work in my 40s now.  I’m playing s taper 125 by now and they are pretty good, but I get a little pully with them.  I’ve went lighter in px, tried the ls version, modus 130 and tour v and just didn’t love them

I don't think MMT 105TX would be a good option as both 105 and 125 both go left on me when I step on one/get too quick from the top.  Axiom is similar to MMT in terms of launch/spin and bend profile but a bit more stable/anti-left for me.  Others have reported that Axiom has a tendency to go left so just be aware of that.  Dart V is ok.  It has a flatter trajectory and spins less than the recoil/recoil proto.  They feel a bit dead though, IMO.  If Fuji releases a black version of the Axiom where it's more linear and anti-left and peforms like the L-Series, it would be perfect.

I’ve got Accra I series red 120 and a Bryson scoring wedge shaft 125tx (used in 6-pw) incoming for testing.  The builder said you can indeed use the Bryson shafts for variable length so we shall see.

it’s hard to find any graphite over stiff flex and or 100 grams to test before buying.

My guy told me they were designed for only one length.  However, if it works out for you, then that would be awesome.  The Bryson shafts feel and perform similar to the L-Series, IMO, however feel heavier overall if that makes sense.  I may need to revisit this as I did test them awhile back but very briefly.

I should have feedback next week.

trying in a one length 9 irons head at 37.5

and then will swap out to my gamer 923 tour 9 iron at 36.5 ish depending on how they swingweight.

Makes sense since the PX 6.0 has stiffer butt/mid sections compared to the DG 120 X100, which can  generally be more consistent for a quick transition

Man - I want to move away from it.  Trying to get into the 105-120 ish range.

If you are looking to go lighter, KBS TGI 110 is worth trying if you're able to get hands on them to test. It's pretty much the same profile and stiffness as C-Taper 125 but 15g lighter. I had them briefly a couple years ago and really liked them but only got out because I preferred closer to 120g. I prefer them over to L series which I also spent some time with only because I found the static weight of the L series build to be really heavy, more similar to a 130g shaft, because of all the extra tip/head weight needed. L series are great and I love the profile/feel, I just don't think they work as well for someone who likes standard length and D3/4 builds. If they made the L series with a neutral balance point I'd strongly consider ponying up the money for them.

I’ll have to check them out.  I did a quick search and it seemed like quite a few people tested them, liked the initial results but it didn’t make their bag.

They're just in a little bit of a no-mans land in my opinion based on weight/stiffness. The are great for someone looking for light and stiff, or also work really well in long irons or utility build.
