HALP!!!!

Longtime golfer, struggling. Might be mostly mental, but having worked with two different PGA teaching pros and having both tell me the same thing, looking to solve or improve the issue. Essentially, clubhead release. I, for reasons I don’t understand, I hold the club off and have an open clubface at impact. First guy kept shaking his head “we’ve got to get you to release the club head” second guy “the toe has to overtake the heel just after impact so we are square at impact, but you’re just not doing that”…

 

I’ve tried strengthening the grip, closing the stance, etc….no luck. 
 

Any drills y’all use to help this, or should I just aim way left forever and give up a ton of yardage…

 

Frustrating part is I never really struggled with this, I used to always hit a slight fade…but nothing like this. I do have advanced arthritis in my left hip and struggle with that now, so maybe that is part of it? I don’t know…maybe I’m stalling my body? just frustrated…
 

Any tips would be welcome…

You need to address the root cause.  Could be any number of things.  So far all of the attempts are not doing that, so we need to see the swing.

 

Possible causes include but not limited to:

 

Right tilting early.

Extending lead wrist at wrong time.

Shaft too vertical in transition.

Lead arm supinating late

Poor shift

etc.

 

The likely scenario is the issue has always been there and the bad hip no longer allows you to compensate.

Like Monte said, there's a cause that needs addressing because the release is a result of what went before. Instructors telling you to do things like get the toe to overtake the heel are trying to change the part of the swing that takes a tiny fraction of a second to complete. If you solve the issue - likely one of the ones Monte suggested - then the release will happen effectively on its own.

Can't help without seeing what it is that's causing it. Sounds like you may have gotten people trying to fix the symptom, not the cause.
