Thinking back, the back 9 was into the wind, wasn't it ? So I guess the longer club was "needed", but as this hole really shows, if yer gonna lay up, lay up, in the short stuff.

 

Didn't realize the left was so bad though. Thinking back again I seem to remember a few ladies being more or less where Nellie was (Lydia ?). But what a time for a wedge to go off in your hands. Sheesh.

 

Heck, the one time I played the Old Course I birdied that hole (downwind with rented clubs, but,,,,, LOL). That, and clearing the hotel are the only 2 things I remember about it the round.

 

That, and I played with another tourist from L.A. and 2 local lads, one of whom asked us "Fancy a game (us 2 against him and his buddy) ?". "Ummmm, no thanks" - another great decision I've made.

Another box ticked off by Lyd's. Got to be the best female player in the world at the moment despite not being #1. I was correct the winner came from someone in the last 5 groups. Two more HOF points now on 29. 

I don't go along with some comments on Nelly, Lilia and others on choking, mistakes etc. Lyd's was also not perfect she just made less mistakes, scrambled better and basically out played everyone in the conditions over the four days. 

 

Have to congratulate Nelly on her Annika Major award win. She is having a great year and no reason to believe she will not win more tournaments this year. 

 

Interesting fact is this is the same day Lyd's won her very first LPGA tournament the 2012 CN Canadian Women's Open (ex Major) 26/08/2012.....12 years ago at the age of 15 years and four months, to became the youngest-ever winner of an LPGA Tour event! 😊

 I can't believe Nelly said she lost the tournament because she theoretically messed up. Theoretically that could be the excuse for every one of the other 143 players in the field that did not win!

How about just give Lyd's some credit for outplaying her despite her clear advantage on a few holes due to her extra length off the tee!

In all fairness though I imagine she is in no mood to do interviews...probably in much the same headspace as Lilia trying to putt out on 18 after coming up short...

another awesome day at St Andrews; lucked out to see all of the pivotal stuff. so glad Lydia won; she was even saying hello to people she knew on the 15th tee etc.

 

 

Spent the morning on the range until everyone teed off then a nice snack lunch in the New Clubhouse and back out to brave the weather; the wind was from the South until about 1650 and then it dropped for 10 minutes and then switched to like the previous days and out of the West, it also got colder at 1500 ish big time.

 

Nelly got a big jumper when she hit her third on 14 so unlucky when she walked back to the tee on 15, she was looking at the spot thinking how and what happened.

 

 

Pano's caddie didn't look like he would make it round in the final day.

Some awesome swings.

Lydia Ko is so nice

Wow the difference in speed of play between the fastest and slowest players was just ridiculous.

Iona Stephen is so nice and cute in person.

R and A certainly know how to run an event.

Funny seeing all the UK instagram crowd putting etc and just having fun in the village.

It is hard work carrying a heavy 2 year 8 month old and watching golf live.

Tom Grennan was awesome even although I had never heard of him before.

I saw the hole out swing on 1 today but my 2 and half year old did a runner so never saw the ball go in.

Favourite 3 is now Ann Van Dam, Lydia Ko and Rose Zhang.

The women were not flighting their wedges was low as the men would in that wind.

Ann Van Dam is still my favourite swing in golf and my favourite female player; she is the Detry and Adam Scott of the Womens game and should win far more than she does.

all the pros were far more interactive the fans than the men were 2 years ago.

Always find it interesting watching the interaction on non interaction between players in pairings.

 

Probably missed some thought but I am tired..... and had a good 4 days in St Andrews.

I cannot imagine playing any kind of golf in that weather all week.  Congrats to Lydia for hanging tough & getting the win.  And....I don't think Morgan Pressel could get any more annoying.

Lydia's body language and demeanor was a step above the rest coming down that back 9. She seemed really comfortable and relaxed whilst still being in the zone. Quite impressive.

L.KO - not much to add, just watch and enjoy both the golf accomplishments and the way she carries herself.

 

Not to be a downer, but it's too bad she didn't win at Pebble Beach last year.  Really, there are only two more tournaments for her to win and then she can move on...

Its golf. Both things can be true as you're playing against yourself and the course before anyone else on it.

 

Ko played well AND Nelly gave her chances to win.

 

Golf is a game of "the better team lost" many a times.

Lilia didn't win but I don't think she choked at all. Lilia, Nelly and many people left their putts short today. The greens were slow and the rain made them even slower. I have played on slow greens and it is very difficult to adjust. Lilia didn't have her best today and the last chip was disappointing. However with 30s yard range, the pros only come up and down 55% of the time so it is not a gimme. Lydia was clutch with her last pitch shot.

 

I had $10 each on Lilia (18/1), Lydia (22/1) and Andrea Lee (100/1) because I knew the late Thursday and early Friday group had a huge advantage. I was very happy at the end knowing I have won for sure. I rooted for Lilia because she is a fellow Vietnamese American and I basically watched her grew up on the driving range in Fountain Valley. Even when she was 6 she was on the range 4 hours a day.

Lydia spends Spring and Summer finishing 27th or 31st, missing a cut here and there. Everyone is talking about and pointing towards the Olympics. Same with the Women's Open. Nothing in her game looks like she can be a factor.

 

Then the day before the Olympics she becomes Ted Lasso remembering he's left handed and has played darts all his life.

 

3 weeks has looked that easy. . .
