GT2 or GT3, what have others landed on?

Quick intro - I swing ~110mph and play at a 5 HC.   I have tried every driver, most premium shaft brands but haven't found the combo that meets my distance expectations and keeps the ball in play most of the time.   I have been most successful with a stiff low launch shaft +  combo of Tour AD VF 6X and AI Smoke Max 10.5.   Had some success with Ventus Black 6S and Ping g430 Max 10.5.   If you are a fitting purest, stop reading now as I don't want to waste your time.  I have been fit by all the different types of guys.   I give fitting a 60% hit rate for me.  I am not a consistent performer in the fitting bay and have a personal bias towards standard config.   I tend to believe, practice and the grind is more important than 2g of weight in the toe etc.... (How my brain is wired) 🙂

 

Here I am needing to make a decision between GT2 and GT3.  Why?  because they are the newest offering to solve the most important shot in golf.   I have hit both heads in a fitting scenario and as expected GT2 dispersion was a little less and GT3 was a little longer.   

 

What has everyone else found in the journey exploring GT2 and GT3?   Which one did you pick?   What gamer did it replace?  If you didn't pick it, what is your gamer?

I am a similar profile player to you. SS is 113. 4 Hdcp. Coming from Callaway Rogue Triple Diamond LS 9 deg with LA Golf A-series X-stiff 60 g shaft. I hit the GT2 and 3 and wanted to like the 2 for the forgiveness. However, upon testing both heads, the GT2 launch angle was higher and my spin was up about 300-400 rpms. Ultimately, The GT3 head won out with a more piercing trajectory, lower spin (2400-2500 rpms), and further carry and total distance on Trackman. I found the GT3 to be more forgiving than my current gamer, which I couldn't believe. We did end up adding the +2g weight to the GT3 in the neutral position and this seemed to tighten up my dispersion. I hit several different shafts well but ultimately liked the feel and the numbers of the Tour AD VF 6x (The HZRDOUS 5G X in 60 g was very close). I am also going with the GT3 head and same shaft in the 3 wood. Again, GT2 launched too high with higher spin in the 3 wood.

Haven’t hit thr gt3 but hit my gt2 today and it’s definitely an upgrade over tsr2 which was a fabulous driver.  Looks better imo.  They did something with the toe that makes it look a little more open without flopping open like some drivers.   The face graphic alignment is also improved imo.  Honestly the gt2 looks like more of a blend towards the tsr3/gt2 than a traditional “2”.  In terms of performance it launched a little bit higher with what appeared to be less spin.  my toe strikes didn’t dive left like I had with r2 which is important for me.   Very consistent flight and everything on the range was playable if Mishit to nutted dead center.  Sound was different - more carbon ish sounding.  Not a monumental upgrade but if better looks , sound , and more consistent flight across the face is worthy of an investment take a look!

I went to club champion fitting wanting GT2 driver, came out fitted for a GT3.  Hit the GT2 well, seemed a little more consistent with GT3 (and I thought it looked much better behind the ball).  Is a lot more forgiving than my current cobra F9 (I wanted the GT2 for the forgiveness factor - didn't notice a difference between the 2, besides the ~200rpm less spin with GT3).  Tour AD VF6X was the best shaft for me (SS 105-110)

 

Compared to Cobra Dark Speed (hit that great too), Callaway AI Smoke TD (centre strikes had that really nice soft/squishy feel).  All very close, GT3 averaged ~2mph faster which is probably just down to my strike consistency.  Definately had less spin with GT3 than out of the 3 which is why I ordered it.

I had a recent fitting to try to narrow down loft and shaft specs. Fairly smooth 110 SS and I hit up 4 degrees. Tried most manufacturers’ heads that day. The GT2 head in 8* of loft and GD Tour AD-UB 7s was the best combo for my swing. Spin was in the low 2000s for me. Such a great looking and feeling head. I would love to pick up that combo but it’s $850+, and it’s now the off-season.
