It’s clear that the players love their coach. Watch at least 40 seconds of this.

As a Vikings fan I’ve become a big culture guy. The Belichick do your job mentality doesn’t work with a lot of guys.

3 AFC championship games, baby!

Back in my DC days I played golf with a few Redskins on Mondays. Charles Mann, Ricky Sanders, Wilbur Marshall (the Bears boys remember that name), and Ernst Byner. I bet you have heard of the last one tater. 😉

I lived a few miles from Redskin Park in Herndon Virginia. Doc still calls northern VA home. We played our golf at one of 3 public courses in the area, Herndon Centennial, Algonquin Park, or Reston National.

I remember Ernst saying, " folks think we are paid too much when it's really we aren't paid enough. If people knew how my body felt on Monday's and then add up all years I've played in the NFL I deserve way more because I've wrecked my body and will deal with a lot of physical issues when I'm out of football."

Ernest was a player. 3 cap or something close.

Mr Marshall was a beginner in golf so I gave him a few lessons at the range in addition to playing 18 with him. #58 on Buddy Ryan's defense was also a regular customer of mine at the restaurant I worked at in Georgetown.

I always marveled at how calm and soft spoken Wilbur was. He and his wife had a cute 5 year old daughter.

I told him that I was amazed by how pretty quiet, calm, and patient he was in real life when on the football field he was one of the most ferocious players on defense. Wilbur's reply, "LP, I have to be that way when I snap up the chinstrap and step out on the field. It's kill or be killed out there. If I didn't play with such intensity I would get injured quite often.

I enjoyed having a few NFL players as golf pals.

Good thing it was on Mondays, after a Sunday game.  I've always found that after the 2nd day you really stiffen up.  They would be crippled golfers on Tuesdays.  Good Story.

Yes, and many other athletic endeavors, as well.  Has always been the case, except when I skied 5-6 days a week or played college golf, playing/practicing 7 days a week.  City league softball, city league football, trying to out-rebound my 6'3" kid in a neighborhood game... I'll always be stiff and sore 2 days later.

... Interesting that both the Bears and Packers games were played in Detroits dome and came down to the last play. I'd like to say the Bears have an advantage playing at home in the great outdoors but the combo of Montgomery and Gibbs in tough conditions certainly give the Lions an advantage.

I think if Detroit gets healthy between now and the playoffs it is wheels up no one will stop them in the NFC.

I have a coworker that does something I find rather unique for Christmas presents for a some of his guy friends. Each year Mr A buys some sports trading cards from some random year in the past and encloses a packet of cards in the envelope with his Christmas Card. Over the years he has given packets from different Pro sports. This year it's the NFL and Wahoo that's my favorite Pro sport.

Since this is a NFL thread I thought I would have a little fun this year with my cards. I ask you guys to guess which trading cards I received when I open the package on Sunday Morning. Two guesses per man. These are cards from 1991 and there are 12 cards in the pack.

My guesses

Flipper Anderson   Rams WR

Keith Byars            Eagles  FB/TE

Make your two guesses please gents.

What do you win if you get one correct? A sleeve of Pro V's or TM TP5's is the prize. Winners will have to message me with their mailing address and I will ship them out to you after the Christmas rush at the Post Office is over.

Thanks for playing.

I thought the Christmas Card was lovely. I especially enjoyed the artwork and the use of red and green colors. The card also had silver sparkles attached to it.

Ah, 1991 ... my all time favorite player won his only MVP ... and a young QB led his team to their first playoff in almost a decade ... and we got to see Whitney Houston belt out one of the best national anthems EVER.

Troy Aikman - Cowboys - QB

The bears went to the playoffs twice in 3 years with Trubisky. I know people like to egg on him but Bears fans would trade this for the Mitch years in a heartbeat. The problem is the entire organization is so dysfunctional from the front office to the coaching staff. They’re on their 4th head coach now in the last 10 years and no one’s lasted more than 3 seasons.

Fields left Chicago this year and played well in the 5-6 games as a starter in Pittsburgh. It’s a death sentence to be drafted by the bears and that team is gonna be stuck in poverty for a long time with the current front office.

... Perhaps I have a different definition of how an NFL QB should play. At a bare minimum, they should be able to:

1. Read a defense pre snap. One of the reasons you see so much motion is because they want to see if the defense is zone or man.
2. Quickly get off your primary read if the coverage isn't advantageous. Like a CB with outside leverage on a simple 10yd out or a [post with cover 2, which leads to

3. Getting to the 2nd and 3rd read, ready to throw the ball immediately if open.
4. Throwing open a WR that is covered but will be breaking away from the coverage when the ball is in the air.

... Trubisky and Fields could do none of those. They both had good arms and especially Trubisky could torch a defense IF his first read was open. Fields had a few big games when his primary WR was open too. They bot love a weak zone defense and could play well against bad teams. But if not open, neither could get through their progressions and complete passes to their 2nd and never their 3rd option. More often than not Trubisky panicked and threw a pick while Fields took off running.

... And this story is worth repeating. When my son was in LA while Trubisky was with the Bears, he found a Chicago Deep Dish pizza place. It was during Covid and a sign read:

Please keep 10 feet between you and other customers. If you are unsure of exactly how far 10 feet is, picture a pass from Mitch Trubisky. The distance it lands away from the WR is about 10 feet." 🤣

I also feel like a lot of OC’s over complicate things for young qbs. Fields was set up for failure in Chicago imo

... While I agree that OC's can complicate things for young QB's, we just disagree about Fields. I watched every game he played and Fields would be set up for failure regardless of who coaches him because I don' think he can't play QB at the NFL level. I think many fall in love with his off the charts athletic ability as well as being one of the best running QB's I ever saw, but he can't read a defense. I saw plays like this over and over again screaming at my TV "OMG THROW THE BALL!!!! Coaching can't fix this:

I saw this over and over again screaming at my TV "OMG THROW THE BALL!!!! Coaching can't fix this:

That’s crazy, should be a td. I don’t watch the bears regularly but reading a defense is the most important aspect of being a good qb. Really makes me appreciate Brady that much more and how he just sat in the pocket and dissected defenses

When can the nfl start flexing games? That bills lions game should be in prime time.

Agree.

Flex one NFL.

Different time slots definitely for those two very looked forward to matchups.
