Wilson Dynapower Carbon?

Anyone considering this now that it's on sale? Looking for a new back-up, but might be too SLDR like for me.

Peter finch tested it and the face caved in from a single testing session. Might be a one off, but enough to be wary.

Performance wise it seems alright.

Only way I'd consider a Wilson driver though is if they released a staff model version with a similar level of styling and quality as the irons and wedges, and some better shaft selections.

@TLUBulldogGolf had no issues when carrying over 300 on the Wilson trip(317 carry in one).  I highly doubt Finch was over that.  Every brand out there has occasional failures.  Without contact info we don’t know if it was a club failure or user error.

Agreed.  I have friends with TM drivers that swing at more normal speeds that have had more issues.

OP I say go for it and give it a shot.  The DPC looks fantastic, is one of the best sounding drivers on the market and from what I have seen it keeps up with ball speed.  Nothing like an SLDR if you ask me.  It does very very well off the toe side miss.

I got the 8* custom ordered for dirt cheap a few months ago.
The driver is a bomber and very forgiving, point and shoot.
I ordered with the rdx red 6.0 55 gram shaft just to tinker with it. With the rdx red I was actually able to crush this thing off deck it was really amazing. Did not like that shaft but threw an rdx blue 6.0 60 gram in there and it’s a bomber. Sadly can longer hit it off deck with the shaft change 😂🥲

from what I hear there’s a new line of woods coming out but haven’t seen them yet.

get it you won’t regret it awesome feel and sound and it performs fantastic.

I have not seen the new metals as yet but everyone at Wilson was raving about them.  They are scheduled for USGA approval in the next month or so and should be for sale early 2025.

This just got reduced again!!! Going to be really hard to resist now!!! I'll sleep on it.

I’ll be the first to admit that before the Wilson trip I probably wouldn’t have looked at them.  It handily beat out the TSR3 I had previously. Longer, straighter…and sounds better.

Thanks for the reply. Only concern is that it might be too low spin for me. Bit of a Wilson fanboy myself, as I can see you are as well, so therefore another reason for high hopes. Can you give your assessment on the sound/acoustics? The more muted the better.

He also broke 3 separate Taylormade Stealth 2 heads if I remember correctly. Dude just swings fast.

That’s why I said I liked the sound….Ping and Callaway are way too loud and pingy….this is more muted than Titleist TSR’s.

The Dynapower woods were the biggest shock to me by far. I was expecting them to be turds, to be 100% honest, but they're actually quite good. The biggest issue is that people just aren't familiar with them. I will definitely check out the 2025 line when it is out, and I certainly think the current line is worth a look especially if budget is a concern.

  • 3 months later...

Just got one of these for $100 with a stiff Ventus shaft.  It was a demo that had been hit just a few times, looked completely brand new. I absolutely love this driver.  Got the 9 degree and cranked it down to 8.  Really great fit for my swing and starting to really dial it in over the past few days after having it for a few weeks.  Very forgiving but love how it feels when you hit the center. Has a really nice sound at contact and very straight.  For the money, I just don't know that there's a better driver out there.

I picked up a lightly used one for $150 locally (not as good a deal as yours) with the same head and shaft. Got to play with it at the local simulator hall and opened it up to 10.5.

Coming off a Rogue ST Max the feel is very different, and the numbers were saying a few yards on the good ones, a few less on the bad... But a very different feel... The rogue is like smothering a ball with a metal pillow, the dynapower is like walloping it with half a tree. The Rogue is spinnier and goes higher, the Dynapower is hotter and flatter. If I can figure out how to get the dynapower's launch to match the rogue's with the same low spin, I'm going to have a bazooka on my hands!

Interesting.  My swing speed on driver is only 98-103 typically.  With the 9 cranked down to 8 I'm still getting plenty of air under the ball.  Starting to wonder if the shaft is a bit soft in the tip.  On my best drives it seems to fly with the kind of trajectory I like.  My miss is a push fade to the right and these fly a bit higher than I want to see but that's probably just the way a push fade is.

Maybe I should try adjusting lower and seeing if that helps, it wouldn't be the first time the counter-intuitive adjustment paid off on a driver for me.

(As it happens, we have identical swing speeds, albeit mid-season I can see mine jump to 105-107, but realistically I live in the 100-103 zone.)

I have also had a horrible season of delivering driver to ball, which has been incredibly frustrating to say the least. Something is wronger than just the club for me right now.

To be fair I've been hitting a 15 year old Titleist driver for the past decade plus so anything of the newer technology would see huge gains for me.  We can all swing better, that's for sure.
