Well when you generate backspin and excessive skid shortens the roll out due to friction, and the generate topspin and reduce friction, thereby increasing roll out, you pull the results farther apart and farther apart…..and farther from the neutral threshold. If I was trying to make speed control across the surface as unpredictable as possible, this would be a good strategy.

yeah well...for a downhill putt.

Excessive skid: Not wanted nor needed. Keep the margins small around the equator of the ball.

Shortens the roll out due to friction: not really; actually the opposite. It's downhill; The friction keeps the ball better on line. (Instead swinging up and lifting the ball and the risk of no no friction; raising the gap, etc.)

If I was trying to make speed control across the surface as unpredictable as possible, this would be a good strategy.

The strategy (selection!) is not speed control; but better roll -the distance covered is a result.

So yeah it's time to run a test!

I uploaded stuff, done tests over time, patiently replied. (Quintic- will come, patience) -what have you got beside an inflection point far behind?

Have you taken measurements on a descending angle of attack with Quintic?

This was an amazing response….more amazing every time I reread it.

Ok, I summoned the courage to read this one more time. I originally came at it in good faith, but now I’m sadly forced to admit that it’s a thinly veiled form of complete gibberish. To continue to pretend that it is serious would be to gaslight myself and unsuspecting readers who open this thread. I presume you are laughing at me right now for taking the bait. Well played, baudi, well played.

OP here, BTW. I did some putting today and (surprising to me) there was more motion in the lower body than I would have guessed. So that deserves some attention. Thanks for the feedback.

If you stick an alignment rod through your front two belt loops when practicing, you can keep an eye out for any hip movement in real-time. Learn what kind of stance and muscular tension you need to firm up your base (legs and core) when making long and fast practice strokes with the alignment rod in place.

I was gonna chime in with this as well. Monte focuses on the hips not moving while putting in his clinics and the alignment rod through the belt loops is the drill he gave. Sure you look a bit foolish but the results are worth it once you get a hang of it.
