Ping putter question (clamp near grip) ??

Ping sold a tool that you inserted into the grip to adjust the length.

You can still find the tools for sale on e Bay and on 2nd Swing. 
But supposedly it’s a Torx bit like the bits used to adjust their drivers and woods. So, I think T 15 or T20 size?

That was the sigma 2 putter, though that had the adjustment thing on the bud end of the grip. I had one of those.

This one seems different as it has a metal collar right below the grip.

As I said above, I am 99% sure this was a fitting club. Before Ping moved into adjustable shaft putters, this enabled the store to adjust the length. Ping's customer service is top notch and I am sure a quick phone call to them would resolve this for you and you could probably even get an adjustment tool from them.

This is the original ping adjustable putter shaft. Used around the time of the Scottsdale TR series and nome putter. There is a specific tool to loosen the ring to adjust for length. The problem was always getting the grip lined up correctly.

As the other chap posted, it was the generation (Scottsdale) before adjustable butt gizmo, benefits to this were if the grip wasnt straight you could just rotate it! The Sigma 2 ones actually moved during longer strokes, so they were a bit funky. 

 

The wrench is a threaded screw with a rounded end. It's not the same as ones used for drivers and putter weights.
