MacGregor Tru-Action A

Hello, I'm trying to obtain more info and date my set of MacGregor Tru-Action A golf clubs and golf bag.  I'm guessing this is from the 1950s-1960s, but do not know for sure. This particular set includes 1, 3, 4, and 5 woods (3B8986E on the hosel), 2-9 irons & wedge (2B9019S on the hosel), a Smoothy N204 putter, and a RDX Tourney Pitching Wedge. I also have a leather MacGregor bag (marked 9KE3 with some more numbers below it, possibly 7 & 5). It comes with a hood for the top of the bag. I've tried searching online and for eBay listings, but I am not having much luck. Many thanks in advance for your insight and knowledge.

Can’t tell what the irons are - it would helpful to have a picture of the backs of the irons, similar to the picture of the pitching wedge.  The wedge is a 1966 DX Tourney RDX model. The Tru-Action A isn’t the name of the clubs, it refers to the type of shafts these clubs have - they’re Tru-Action shafts with “A” flex.

Firstly cool time capsule. If you were anywhere near Mn. I’d be all over you for that bag! Looks to me AO60 irons and woods first appears in Kaplan book in 1969 retail. Says Macgregor Championship Model with new aluminum shafts. Wonder if a Chicago Bear’s fan would dig these with that logo? Hard to tell in your pictures if they are aluminum shafted. Now on the 69’s the face insert is different, 3 screws. There’s a 69 XPSEVENTY retail set with a similar looking insert just reverse colors, white on dark. My book only goes to 1970 and has professional only then. Since yours look extremely similar but say O60W and it’s a different face insert I’m guessing it’s a 1970 retail model. That Tourney RDX pitching wedge is 1966 professional. I’m searching put can’t see anything on that putter. Ugly duckling but loveably cool. I didn’t realize TearDrop stole the idea in the 90’s. I’m not seeing anything on shaft flex options. A shaft was SR flex in 1950’s True Temper shafts but could it possibly stand for just aluminum? Kaplan book is still new to me and there’s so much in it. I don’t think the serial numbers will help in the book.

Try the magnet test on the shafts: if a magnet sticks, they're steel. If not, they're aluminium.

Thanks for your interest and the replies. I can confirm that they are steel (magnet test). Here is a better image that includes the back side of the irons. The emblem color scheme on the irons is the same as what's on the PW. However, the PW has a different (but very similar) grip. That being said, the grips are the same between the irons and the woods, but the color scheme of the emblem is different.

Thanks....I still think this is a custom set done for either a Cub's or a Bear's fan, just based on the "C", I've never seen a logo like that (which really doesn't much, cuz I'm still learning that I know very littly about anything 🤣)

Found a similar set for sale on another site, see attached screenshots.  In the description, the seller indicates they are a late 1970’s set - he believes his father purchased them in 1978. Very interesting set!!
