SwingMan Rangefinder and The Grint

Hey All!

 

I have been an avid user of The Grint for many years now.  Just saw a rangefinder that they released where it connects to The Grint app.  The benefit of the connection is that the front, middle, and back yardages are displayed in the view of the rangefinder as you tag the pin.  This gives you front, middle, back, real yardage, and slope-adjusted yardage all on one screen at one time.  This sounds like a phenomenal idea.  

 

I searched the forum but didn't find much on this device. Does anyone have experience with this or have ordered one and been using it for a while? I quickly Google-searched it and didn't find a ton of reviews.

I have it.  I think there are some bugs they need to work out.  I know they have already created an update for Apple users but not yet for the Android platform.  Grint sent out an email about common problems that users are experiencing and gave some tips to resolve them. I didn't find any of the tips to really fix the problems I've experienced. 

 

I have a very difficult time getting it to lock in on the flag.  Because I can't get it to lock in, I'm reluctant to believe the front/middle/back numbers listed on the screen or the yardage at all for that matter.  Often the front/middle/back doesn't even show up on the screen.  I also have a hard time getting it to give me a reading with slope.  So far I have been disappointed in it but I need to give it a little more time and hopefully they will provide an update for Android as well.

I have it in hand and have been using it for a couple of rounds. Give me some time and I will share my thoughts 💭.

I recently got the rangefinder and have used it for my last 2 rounds.  I've found that the distance to the pin is about 8 yards off every time.  Also like the other commenter mentioned, I have trouble locking in on the pin.  It takes a few tries to get it.  Right now I'm disappointed in the performance and am having trouble trusting it.

Interested to hear some more on this as it sounds like a great feature since I already use the Grint.  I'm really hopeful but not if it's not accurate and can't lock on a flag.

 

I read someone that had issues with readings not accurate, but they had it in meters not yards.

Interesting, definitely sounds like a lot of headaches for $150... That was my worry and why I came to the forum to ask.  It sounds pretty too good to be true (work that well).  Thanks for the honest opinion though!  I am an iPhone user so it could be an Android thing as you mentioned.

I am an Android user and agree with what has been said so far. The kinks need to be worked out a bit. I too have a little trouble locking on sometimes but I have used it along side my Bushnell and find the distances to be pretty accurate. 

 

I was intrigued by the information shown, but now wondering if it might be information overload (for me). You have the distance, distance with slope and then on the right side you have the flag location and front, back and center distances. The latter only works if the GPS is running in Grint and you are on the correct hole. I too had trouble with that but it seems to be much better since the last update. 

 

Device seems solidly built for the price and hoping updates will help with the accuracy and flag pickup.

I'm an Android user.  I've tested it a few more rounds against my Bushnell and the distances to the flag seems pretty accurate in comparison but the Swingman almost never locks onto the flag and doesn't give me a slope reading as a result.  Since it doesn't lock on the pin I'm a little weary of the accuracy of the front/middle/back distances.  Kind of disappointed in it so far.  The quality and construction seem good though.

Anyone know if there has been a firmware update or a fix for the flag lock issues if been reading about?

Would love to know also.  Held off on buying one with all of the complaints I've read online.

Hello - doing some research and came across this review of the Swingman.  It looks like there was some firmware updates recently that possibly made the rangefinder better.  Are there any active users of the rangefinder in this thread that can confirm/deny if the firmware update has improved the accuracy of locating the pin and/or other features?

 

Along those lines, a somewhat disappointing revelation is it sounds as though the pin position and front, center, back yardages would only be displayed if you were a Pro member of the grint.  That was the only reason i was interested in purchasing the range finder as i felt that was a big differentiator but if that is going to require me to carry a membership in addition to buying the product then im not interested and would rather go with the PP or something comparable.
