What is your temp cutoff for golf ?

I’ve done the frozen greens and ponds stuff 😞.For many many many years..Fasf forward a few decades.Anything below 60 is rare for me.How about you ?

I am still good with pretty much any temperature, hot or cold.  Mostly walk in the winter so keeps the body warm.

 

Once you add in wind it is a different story.

As long as there is no rain I'll play.  Last winter I played two very windy sub 40 rounds.  I live in a humid region so cold can be bone-chilling.  Not the best weather for golf, but walking keeps you warm.

I live in VA, around 40 is when I am not liking to play, even though we walk all year around at that temp if it's windy, it will feel way colder and it just don't feel good to play...

My measure is always if you can get a peg in the ground. If so, I'll play in most anything. 

 

I just don't see the point of playing on frozen ground.

Temperature, wind, and rain. I can handle a lousy one of any of those three. If two or more are no good, I'm really loving golf that day to play. 

 

Getting to or above 40 degrees shortly in the round is good enough for me. Warming up on the range in the high thirties is tough but doable. The trick is to grow up in the North, then take up golf once you move to the South.

I crack up at this as when I was younger, if the course was open, we played. Our season in MN is so short you just played.

 

Being 61, I tell my golfing buddies, if the temp is below my age for the high, I am not playing!  Can’t rotate when I am cold so it is just not fun. I will work out and hit the sim for some practice time.

 

the other rule, we won’t play if you have cold, wind, rain, never.  If you have one removed, then it’s worth a discussion.

When I was younger, any temp. Now I am pretty much 50 and above. If we tee off and it will be around 50 when making the turn, I'm ok with it. If you add in wind, I'm out. LOL

I've played in the upper 30s; ground was frozen a few inches below. Not the best temp but have shot a great round while in the 40s with a few birds.

50 is our minimum starting temperature. By the time we are done it's normally near 70.  Zero rain!  That's an absolute when you play 3 or 4 times a week. 

 

We don't get many days a year under 60. Like none.

Any temperature cold wise as long as the ground isn’t frozen. Heat though I can’t do anything higher than 85 (I usually play morning rounds no issues). My first sub 40 shooting nine was actually Black Friday 3 years ago in dense fog so I will play in anything.

It cant just be temp from a thermometer it is more of that real feel temp that factors in wind chill humidity and pressure. 

 

With all that being said my cutoff is 40 not a coincidence its right above a critical threshold of phase transition lol

I’m in Eastern Canada and there is no cutoff for Temp for me. If the course is open I’ll play. To give an example, I’ve played many times in Nov when the water hazards were frozen haha.

Cold but calm? Yep, going.

Cold and windy? Nope.

 

I'd bet there's a direct correlation between who has lived in areas with a short season and how hardy they are. Living in a part of FL where we can get some relatively bitter cold at times, I'll still go because I've also lived in places like North Dakota.

Probably high 30s to low 40s as long as it’s sunny and not windy. The wind is the deciding factor.

Frozen ground isn't golf anymore, it's not fun when the ball can't stop IMO

Some sun no wind for me lowest playable temp is 48F.

 

Below that and I spend to much effort trying to keep my hands warm enough.

I play in anything.  I'm usually down south when it's cold but in the transition months I'm playing if the course is open.

Southern California frequently gets down to 40s during our supposed winter period; nowadays, my limit is 50s.  Because I was born and raised in four-season country, CA temps remind me of spring or fall elsewhere.  While everyone dresses like it's full on winter here, I still wear shorts and short sleeve shirts.

Assuming no major wind or rain, the course is open and ground not frozen, my limit for high temp on the day is probably 32 or so. You just need to walk the course and have hand warmers. I've tee'd off in high 20's when the high might get to 35 and it's really not a big deal.

I live in CA and the coldest I’ve played was in the upper 30s.

But I’ve played many rounds in the upper 40s to low 50s during the winter. 
We get hot summers but it’s not humid so it’s uncomfortable rather than intolerable. 
I only draw the line at rain. 
Todays forecast: sunny and 77 with moderate winds.

I've played in below freezing temperatures with rock hard ground that dents when you hit a wedge shot and greens that are essentially like a car park.

 

I was young, stupid and keen back then.

It's not really the temperature that makes a difference. It's the wind. Playing in the 30s' with high wind is a miserable experience. Temp wise I'd say anything over 32*. Sunny and no wind when its that cold not bad. Overcast and windy. I'll pass.

It's not just wind either.  It's the combination of wind, sun, and dewpoint.  A 45 degree day that's windy, with no sun, and the wrong dewpoint, can feel downright freezing. The same temp on a different day can be very pleasant.
