What is your temp cutoff for golf ?

The coldest temp my course has been open at this season was like a 38f high. Lower than that means there was an overnight frost, and they probably won’t open. High 30s (f) can be surprisingly comfortable if it’s sunny and not windy (I.e. if the course is open, I’m playing). On a cloudy and windy day, low 40s would probably be my cutoff. The wind makes a huge difference.

Lower temps are tolerated only if the sun is out and the wind is down. Golf is meant to be enjoyable.

Well Im very spoiled in the winter, so it’s 55-60* with sunshine out. 

 

However in the summer, I cut off at 108-110*

Played today in Hagerstown Md.   30°.   And we enjoyed it.   If you’re playing well and it happens to be cold you don’t mind it so much.     No cart cover today.  That would have been bonus points.

We don’t stop in Washington. Up here our courses are open rain, snow or shine. When it snows only low handicaps show up with yellow balls. 
 

Don’t mind the Mt Dew Socks, shorts and crocs.

Since I've been in my 70s I won't play unless it's 55* F and sunny with little or no wind. In Summer, it needs to be below 95* F with little or no heat index (humidity). Obviously, at my age I prefer hot over cold unless we're talking about beer.

I actually prefer super hot as most won’t play and it frees up the course for me

Last couple weeks been playing in 30-35 degree weather... love the frozen greens and the balls bouncing from the middle of the green to off the green 😄 but I've learned to adjust and I don't mind the cold... the only thing I hate about the cold is the fear of damaging your clubs. Last year I picked up a TSR2 after the round I found chunks of paint missing from the hosel area 😞 lol

My oldest son and I set up a golf trip to Alabama in late January. We live in Central Indiana and at that time we had about 12 to 14 inches of snow on the ground and almost 0°. We set it up for late February 20-23. We left on Wednesday night the 19th and stayed over in Franklin, TN. (Short video below) Air temperature with 10, windchill was -1 as we were eating breakfast. We still had three more hours to drive to Birmingham for our first stop, but it only got up to 32° that day, 10° windchill. That is officially the coldest round I’ve ever played. It did warm up into the 40s, but the windchill was rarely above 40°.

Winter 2024 and I played in all kinds of weather with my hardy friends.  Think the lowest was about 30F with some breeze.  Winter 2025 and I played zero rounds.  The weather was either too cold, too windy, or too wet and by time it was ok to play, I wimped out thinking the weather will be a lot better in a few weeks.  Plus, I didn't have the drive to play golf.  Got my first round of the year in last week.

I'll play in high 30's/low 40's if there is some sun, but not if the greens are frozen. Not worth having your ball bounce off the back. I'll play in any heat as well. just have to prepare.

I'm a Minnesotan.  I've golfed in a tournament when it was sleeting.  Probably 31-32*.

Largely dependent on wind and if I am acclimated to the winter cold yet.  But 30 F with sun and calm winds I can manage.  If it is windy, I would probably need close to 50 F.
